I worked at Pomeroy (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Best case is if you are based in Cincinnati, they are not really a global or even US wide provider. Still primarily a VAR and staffing company that is learning to sell services. Primarily an end-user focused provider, so they are not really into data center, cloud, or monitoring and management, or any advanced technology. Would be a good place to start your career or look to get additional experience before moving on.

    Cons

Pomeroy struggles to grow services, so it you are a services person their will be very little head room to grow. Sales team has had a lot of turnover and there seems to be a restructure every two years. It is definitely a good-old-boy network of people that have been running the company, so I have seen many outsiders come and go.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate with employees more than twice a year and with a few email blasts. I worked there for months and never had a single one-on-one conversation with my manager, a round-table, or a skip level. Then they wonder why people get fed up and leave.

I have been working at Pomeroy full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Management is always willing to help you, company tries to get feedback from their people, they try to keep a keen eye on your sales activities (which is a double-edged sword). If you truly have a "can-do" attitude and do not take anything personally when it comes to sales activities, this might be a good fit.

    Cons

If you are strictly outside sales, prepare to cold call all day, everyday, get hung up on, handle rejection, and try again. Channel partners typically don't want to work with you unless you have identified an opportunity already. Cut-throat management keeps an eye on all your Salesforce activity. Most people you call on do not know who Pomeroy is, and if they have, 90% of the time they had a terrible experience in the past. You deal with management/C-level IT personnel so they will be very short with you and unforgiving when it comes to second chances, especially if you have a set of accounts from another sales rep who made the relations sour. Healthcare benefits are terrible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to MARKET Pomeroy better with advertisements, networking events, and stop relying on the Sales guys to spread the word on Pomeroy

I worked at Pomeroy full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

They are always hiring. This is a great starting point for your career in IT. Get a position stay for 2-5 years get the experience you need and then move on to new company.

    Cons

People are always leaving. Lots of great workers left while I was working here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer some sort of incentive for people to stay.

I worked at Pomeroy full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Some very good people work there that are talented and focused.

    Cons

Seems to be a constant employee purge and the letting go of solid and key people, a revolving door. A clear gap in middle and upper management of communication and objectives. Too many upper managers more interested in themselves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get in touch with the business and employees. Recognize the poor managers and get rid of them, there are too many favorites in upper management. Focus on the employees and customers.
