    Lifeguard

    Guard (Current Employee)

ProsThere was a lot of freedom to decide when and where to work as well as you got to decide how to enforce the rules at the pool.

ConsThere was lots of cleaning to do which is necessary but extra tedious depending on the size of the pool you work at.

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide more training to guards will help make them more motivated to do their work thoroughly and provide the most benefit to the company.

Great family like environment, owner is fabulous!

    Area Coordinator (Current Employee)

ProsGreat environment to work in and love, love, love the owner! So many pools to chose from if at first you don't click at the pool you're at there are other options out there!

ConsTeenagers will be teenagers, but so many take the job thinking nights, weekends and holidays off would be nice, when in fact those are the busiest and most important times to ensure coverage. Hiring to staff the pool properly can be difficult especially at the beginning and end of the season because of school commitments and often properties do not want to reduce the hours of their pools to help use guards effectively. Often management is teenagers themselves, and while they know a lot about the pools and the company, some of them have little to no supervisory skills and therefore can sometimes lack a backbone when it comes to coaching their staff.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire extra people and float them, they will get hours for sure and maybe even make the floater position the intermediary position between pool manager and coordinator and use it as training. Perhaps cap hours on newly hired guards so they get a feel for why the job entails and/or start anyone without prior experience as a pool attendant rather than a lifeguard...safety first.

Extremely laid back but management doesn't run it very professionally.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsPool Watch is a fun environment for young people and is an extremely relaxed atmosphere (but a little too much so.)

ConsYou while likely end up working with a few complete idiots as the management will pretty much hire anyone who seems nice and even rehire those who were incompetent the first time.

Advice to Senior ManagementThere needs to be a stricter hiring process to filter out those who aren't serious about the position or knowledgeable.

    Pretty chill job

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood Pay, You get paid no matter what (rain or shine), great knowledgeable managers and supervisors, growth opportunities. You also get freedom to run/ enforce the pool basically however you want; as long as you are nice and it is effective and you follow the rules. Depending on the pool you are at but you get a lot of free time. You get to sit there and chill basically. Everyone is really nice and you get a pretty good tan. Time and a half pay on Holidays!

ConsThe cleaning isn't too bad. You get used to it and it is nice to know that your pool is clean, because of you. The job sometimes gets boring and it's annoying when its cold and you are waiting to get sent home, (but you still get paid). Some people can barely work, so it seems like they are constantly looking for more employees and sometimes hire people just to have someone to be there, especially when they need subs.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe management is pretty amazing, but I would suggest to try to hire more people before the season because sometimes shifts need to be covered mid season or something comes up and it can be hard to find a sub.
