I worked at Portland Community College part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great place to work in because of the collaborative environment offering stimulating access too other advisors, PCC staff and administrators. Clients are especially satisfying to work for. They are interesting, self starters, entrepreneurial and are paying attention.

    Cons

SBDC is now housed in the Climb Center which does not have windows that open nor parking for employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work! Offer incentives to car share, ride to work or parking pass options.

Former Employee - Pilot Project for Student Retention in Portland, OR

I worked at Portland Community College as an intern (more than an year)

    Pros

My position was a pilot project that unfortunately did not get continued funding. Student success was a priority, worked with many long term employees who were satisfied with their jobs. Several opportunities for growth once you are able to get your foot in the door.

    Cons

Navigating the politics within the education system, and within certain departments that effected decision making was frustrating. The values of the institution did not align with the needs of the community and students regarding support for student success in certain areas. "That's not a problem on our campus" attitude.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    More transparency
