    Advice to Management

    Pros

Has well defined expectations of employment. Good Benefits and opportunity for growth. Good reputation in community. People are collaborative in shared mission.

    Cons

Administration currently facing big changes. Message and mission can get diluted diverted in such a large place.

    Advice to Management

Create more opportunities for people from different ethnic and provide more diversity at the top levels of management. Sometimes perspectives are only from one ethnicity viewpoint.

    Pros

    Big organization = great opportunities.

    Cons

Internal communication is chaotic. The college does not audit/cross check services as often as it should be. The culture in several departments are still reactive and lack proactiveness.

    Advice to Management

Watch out for self-entitlement and heavy top management structure. Hire more Business Analyst and flatten the organization structure. Fix the data problem ASAP. Eliminate duplicated programs and evaluate access with KPI. Build strategic partnerships to combine funding, create jobs, and gain collaboration. Need a culture of organization excellence to fix the system and increase productivity.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Portland Community College full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

PCC does provide decent benefits and there are many people who are compassionate, caring, and dedicated to student success.

    Cons

The faculty and staff are not very diverse (especially higher up), and the work environment tends to be insular--meaning, it can be difficult to get a job, if you haven't worked for them in one capacity or another.

    Advice to Management

Please promote more diversity, especially higher up.

I have been working at Portland Community College full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, healthy work and learning community, love my students and coworkers. A lot of freedom, space to grow and advancement. Start pay is low but over time, it will add up.

    Cons

They keep too many old lazy people around because they are afraid to fire them. I see so many unproductive staffs and manager taking advantage of the system. Parking is horrible at very campus and work space is very limited.

    Advice to Management

Front desk people are not very professional at (every campus), train them and require new practices. And my God, staffs need to dress more professional. Coming to work in t-shirts and not brushing your hair everyday is ridiculous.
