    Average Company Great People

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Melville, NY

    ProsDirect line managers care about their employees
    No opposition to taking vacation days even if requested last minute
    Star employees are recognized and rewarded with raises and promotions
    Rewards and recognition program is overall pretty good
    If you are the type of person that would like to find a company you can stick around for the long haul and retire in, then this is the company. We have a number of employees that have been around for 20+ years
    Decent benefits coverage for dental and health (not the best but certainly not the worst)
    We were able to avoid layoffs during the economic downturn
    Very diverse culture and community
    Despite the below cons, the company employee engagement score is very high

    ConsLack of technology is appalling. Only this year have we started using scanners for shipments.
    Many process are documented on personal spreadsheets rather than actual information systems
    Senior management focuses on penny pinching rather than understand the ROIs of certain investments (ie its people)
    Senior team is rarely visible and their only focus is what goes on in the Operations department
    Pay and compensation is not competitive to the industry
    Much of the culture is still entrenched in the old shool transportation industry where the all the effort and focus went into pushing freight rather than improving the surrounning and supporting activities
    With this old school culture comes a greater difficulty for women in the company to prove themselves and be taken seriously
    Innovation is stagnant despite the numerous opportunities available

    Advice to Senior ManagementBecome more visible to the employees not on the senior team. Listen to what they have to say about ways to improve the company. There are some ideas out there that may prove valuable to a company.
    It may be surprising, but Operations is not the end-all-be-all. It is only one component to the organization
    Just because the ROI of something isn't immediate does not mean it isn't important.

    Review of TNT, Contract Management, Production Supervisor Position

    Production Supervisor (Former Employee)
    Kansas City, MO

    ProsJob was relatively easy as long as I watched the details. 1. keep track of inventory minimum 2. ensure that production quota is on track 3. make sure that trucks are loaded and product delivered on time

    ConsTimes of rather high stress: during launch period, working out organizatin and best practices; also when inbound trucks were running late, also when outbound trucks were running late.

    Advice to Senior Managementmake good hiring decisions to ensure that operation runs smoothly and contracting company remains happy so that contract is renewed.

    Not a bad job, but they will never become a UPS or FedEx

    Major Account Manager (Former Employee)
    Chicago, IL

    ProsLots of potential business in International. Strong EU product and service. Goog upper management and an entrepreneurial experience to boot.

    ConsTechnology is lacking and no domestic aircraft means that this company relies entirely on commercial aircraft to move packages outside the US.

    Advice to Senior ManagementStop trying to compete with UPS and FedEx and try to carve out your own little niche in the marketplace.

    Manager

    Manager (Current Employee)
    Hoofddorp (Netherlands)

    ProsLots of room for improvement, so challenging;
    Little own pension contribution;
    Modern work environment, eady to plan your own time and work location

    ConsVery political and hierarchical;
    little career opportunities in a shrinking company because talent needs to fight internal politics most of the time;
    poor bring your own device policy

    Advice to Senior ManagementRestructure further to become sufficiently agile and enable enterpreneurial spirit within the company to thrive

    Not converting the strengths into profits

    Operations Manager (Former Employee)
    Mumbai (India)

    ProsThey take care of the employee well, Lot of emphasis on safety. Have a very good CSR programme. Tied up with UN for World Food Program

    ConsToo much process orientented, which leads to Red tapism. No clear direction. Every one is interested in their KPI not looking at the hollostic view.

    Advice to Senior ManagementUnderstand what the market and employ the startegy acordingly. You need to understand your cost and then work according to that cost.
