I worked at Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, 401k, insurance, vacation and wages. Treated everyone fairly and in a dignified manner. Very clean and well kept workplace,

    Cons

It is a 24/7, 365 days a year job, you may not like the hours and having to work holidays. Schedules are based on seniority and will get better as you spend time with the company.

    Advice to Management

Be more open with company news, both good and bad. Treat everyon like an adult.

I have been working at Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Benefits, 401k mainly. Good pay for entry level work.

    Cons

Officers are too busy parading to actually make a good decision you can also deduct there is some shady deals going on when we need to get a whole new time clock system that doesn't work, when the last one would do everything and more than the current one. Management promotes based on who sleeps and drinks with them not based on quality. Attendance policy is harsh and using your vacation on desired days that aren't holidays are nearly impossible. With that said if you don't want to see your family and want to possibly get fired for missing one meeting (that is considered a no call no show) like to smoke can handle players and supervisors calling you profane things on a daily basis this is the place for you.

    Advice to Management

This place needs a remodel in management more than it needed one in the casino.

I worked at Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Exciting, nice facility, opportunity for advancement or transfer, interesting business, great way to break into the casino business and see what you like.

    Cons

CEO is a pompous and arrogant ego maniac, unappreciative management, marketing department is not creative or effective, poor customer retention tactics, casino hosts are concierges not hosts

    Advice to Management

Get some management that isn't related to board members or upper mgmt, pay some of your staff what they deserve instead of your huge bonuses, appreciate staff, get more creative, reward customer loyalty, realize other casinos are better run, appreciate your staff and guests so they don't go elsewhere.

    Pros

Has good pay for entry level work, as well as good benefits.

    Cons

Lots of Drama, huge interdepartmental breakdowns, unethical management.

    Advice to Management

Shift managers are unethical to their employees. As well as Asst. Shift and Leads actually have relations with employees that are very inappropriate.
