I worked at Praxair Distribution full-time

    Pros

Company car available for personal use, good coworkers

    Cons

I saw my manager twice in a year and would't get responses to phone calls or emails. Lack of communication hurt business. Company is on a spending freeze. Will not reinvest in itself and things are going down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get sales managers that actually care. This company feels like a out of touch corporation that doesn't care about employees.

I have been working at Praxair Distribution full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    Lots of caring, talented people.

    Cons

Centralized management. Managers at the local level don't have any real authority to effect change yet they take the hard hits daily from regional types as well as the front line folks. Work-life balance is the worst of any position I've had throughout my career. The stress level and hours demanded are frankly, inhuman. Few if any seem to get any satisfaction from what they do. It's a job, nothing more. Many feel trapped due to economy over past 5 years, if & when that improves, there will be many that take the first train out of town.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Decentralize more. Your middle manager types for the most part are very good at what they do. You'll never get the buy-in needed from them or the folks downstream with current culture.

I have been working at Praxair Distribution full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Overall everybody is fairly hard working and the majority of middle-to-upper management is very personable and interested in hearing the voices of the employees. I get the impression that there's a lot of room to grow and there are plenty of opportunities. If there's something I don't know I feel completely comfortable contacting anyone in the company and, thus far, they have been very helpful in answering my questions.

    Cons

Some lower-to-middle managers may not have the leadership experience to effectively carry out their responsibilities and coaching isn't readily offered. Pay is a little on the low-end of the spectrum as well. My work-life balance isn't great but that's mainly because I'm a workoholic. I've notice this as a trend amongst middle managers, however.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not rush important decisions, especially as they pertain to staffing key management positions. As much as possible, try to anticipate decisions as early as possible and align resources to give yourself the widest variety of options possible.

I worked at Praxair Distribution full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Solid, established company. Great benefits. Large, diverse group of associates. Support from many different areas and people within company. Opportunities to promote from within. Multitudes of job functions available.

    Cons

Large corporation with many different divisions. Sometimes feel lost at the bottom. With company wide 'efficiency' layoffs, many people wear multiple hats that leave their time at a premium. Often hard to get in touch with correct person as needed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on keeping employees up to date of their performance and direction the company would like for them to pursue. Make opportunities within company available without resentment.

Nothing to be happy about here.

    Cons

Overworked, underpaid, looked down upon, work life balance not good

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pros

Good pay for the work. Friendly environment for the most part.

    Cons

Lack of advancement, lack of good management, lack of communication from the top to the bottom. No frills, but bare bones you go to work, you get paid. Don't expect too much else and it should work out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate with employees more often, and be more organized.
