    Pros

Opportunities as a director to get involved in many parts of our business.

    Cons

Technology is falling behind our competitors.

    Advice to Management

Continue to turnover the senior management. They have done a super job of turning the company around the past 10 years, but Premera needs fresh ideas and energy to evolve into 2020.

    Pros

Good people to work WITH, nice location, benefits adequate.

    Cons

Emperor has no clothes when it comes to the infrastructure and IT. They SAY they want employee input into systems but do not often follow through with that. VERY political right wing organization, and that is to the extent of publicly telling employees how to vote!

    Advice to Management

Get your IT house in order to support your clinical staff. Stop lying to groups you are contracting with about the services you will provide. If your data doesn't back it up, don't sell it! Do the Right thing (like you say you do).

    Pros

Commute. Able to keep it to 40hrs per week.

    Cons

Too many people (including senior management) won't make decisions if it means risking their employment and pension later.

Too many layers and cliques, too hard to get decisions made and the work done.

    Pros

The benefits and pay are decent and the commute is pretty good for most. The workforce (people who actually do the work) is pretty friendly and the cafeteria offers healthy food choices. The campus is also quite clean and nice.

    Cons

There are so many layers of management, especially at the Director and VP levels. It's impossible to get a decision made and work done. It's very 'big brother' like. There are a lot of cliques, so it's about who you know and if they like you, not what you know. Technology is also way behind the times. If you have innovative ideas, this is not the place for you. If you want to go to work and put your time in, this will be a good place to work.

    Advice to Management

Really look at all the layers. The company is not that big. Do you really need them all?

    Pros

This is a place where you work hard and learn a lot of new things, at least at some departments. I see a lot of internal hiring so there are opportunities to grow, just not very quickly.

    Cons

Work-life balance is not good because of how much is expected of you. Benefits are not the best, not many rewards or company outings. Although, a Vision benefit is very good.

    Advice to Management

    Be more proactive and innovative.

    Pros

    Great people
    Excellent benefits package
Location is simple from North Seattle

    Cons

Long-term employees who hold the company back
Will not put their money where their mouths are
    Slow as molasses processes
    Recruiting is very slow
HR can be tricky to work with

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the business, not just on maintaining your power structure.

    Pros

Jeff Roe CEO ,SMG/EVP and SVP HR are all extremely smart, talented, strategic leaders.

In the short time I have been gone I have seen many positive change to the website, job descriptions and strong focus on the Candidates experience.

Every candidate is a potential member so every experience is important. They may not get the job offer but they do have a choice when in comes to selecting a health plan.

    Cons

con very little training & development or cross training for HR associates so you stop learning and being developed and end up being under utilized.

    Advice to Management

Listen to the people doing the work, fully understand the process before you implement change. When you make one change to a process you don't fully understand it can causes the entire process to fall apart.

Managers If you have an idea to improve a process consider a pilot on specific division and if successful role it out. If not, quickly go back and adjust so the candidates experience is not affected.

    Pros

Does the right thing for their members, associates and providers
Wants to improve their project management processes
    Promotes Lean methodologies

    Cons

PMO processes are very young, needs a lot of maturation
Not a lot of understanding what a PM does
Very Management heavy, could stand to have better understanding of what is happening on the floor

    Advice to Management

Get a better understanding of what is happening on the floor, get out and talk to associates more, connect more - don't just encourage Lean at the manager level, get directors, VPs, SVPs and everyone else involved, daily
