I worked at Premier, Inc. full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Even as a associate level developer you really have the ability to leave your mark here. You will be given tons of opportunities to shine. There is good work culture at Premier as well. Rarely came across someone that I did not enjoy working with.

    Cons

Sometimes it did feel like the amount of work was never ending, and there was not enough appreciation from upper level management. Not a huge issue though.

Underestimating the importance of treating staff well

I have been working at Premier, Inc.

    Pros

Benefits, salary, volunteering, and the annual Breakthroughs Conference.

    Cons

Senior-most managers, particularly in Informatics who simply don't care about people. It's been a significant culture shift since November 2013, and they are hiring more and more people who have no idea how the company makes money or why it is so important to have a strong relationship with Premier's members. Also, there is absolutely no desire to grow people. Your career and job are always to risk.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not underestimate the importance of investing in your people. The new mind-set of 90 thinking to take money from the members is exceptionally short-sighted. Only when you understand the members and truly care about what they are doing will you return to becoming what Premier once was.

    Pros

Get treated like a professional at all times. Benefits are exceptional, especially PTO, Sick, and floating holidays.

    Cons

Training could be a little better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider looking into employee training prior to letting them loose on the job.

Great company to work for, lot's of incentive to cross-train with other departments and learn new technologies.

I have been working at Premier, Inc.

    Pros

Lot's of new technology to work with, cutting edge Health-Care software and a really high level of technical expertise is available to you from your peers through instant messaging.

    Cons

Stringent change control procedures can often delay or inhibit your projects when quick changes are needed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust the people you hired to get the job done and give your people more autonomy. Weekly one-on-ones with Sr. Management can be stressful and micromanagement instils fear, kills creativity and stifles initiative.

Leaders have lost focus on mission, shifting to chasing wall street expectations

I have been working at Premier, Inc. full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Many smart employees, and they still have some people who understand the importance of Premier's history and how it helps them connect with their members as long-term partners to fix healthcare.

    Cons

Focus on revenue has trumped the characteristics that made Premier, so the company is slowly losing its differentiation. Premier leaders say they are focused on long-term, but they crush many people and projects that do that if they do not see immediate financial benefits. It's all about hitting numbers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop chasing wall street expectations and examine what it is doing to your culture. Your company is nothing without people, so stop treating so many talented people so poorly. You cannot keep discarding talented, dedicated, and committed people as if they can easily be replaced.

    Pros

Great learning experience, educational classes, wonderful coworkers. and exceptional benefits

    Cons

Disparate departments, training could be more consistent across teams. Inconsistent leadership within teams. Supply Chain departments don't take advantage of refined analytical tools from IT side.

I have been working at Premier, Inc. full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The employees are a lot of fun to work with on a daily basis. Lots of good parking with all the employees that are leaving the company because of upper management. Another good thing is that most of the upper management doesn't live in the state so they are not there as much making changes just for the sake of making changes.

    Cons

Let's see where to start? I know, where all of the companies faults are, the top management team. They are completely out of touch with their employees and have thrown Premier's core values out the window. Work life balance is a term that is used a lot when selling the company. Too bad it is never divulged that it means there is none. The company is ran by a clueless out of town Bostonian because the CEO is too busy promoting herself as a "Top influential " business woman passing out free stocks to her cronies while short changing the employees. Unrealistic objectives on projects that never have an end and when it does look like a project will have an end it is just canceled or stopped all together. We have 50 different tools that all do the same thing but that doesn't stop them from bringing in more. Very disappointed how this company has "Transformed" since the last CEO left. Going downhill fast with nothing but a brick wall at the bottom.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a good look at how Boston is running the show. Your employees are your most valuable resource and you should treat them as such. Don't reward upper management for the employees hard work, reward the employees for a change with something more meaningful than a blanket, t-shirt or Fitbit. You fell on your face hard with the employees that have been there for a long time with the 200 share across the board give away.

I have been working at Premier, Inc. full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The business is solid, good colleagues, benefits are good, not much accountability for delivering results, lots of opportunity to work from home and work remotely.

    Cons

Very little differentiation for performance -- everyone gets the same raise, feels a little like working for the government, politics are what get you ahead at this company, get someone senior to like you, and you're all set

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up, you have incompetent leadership starting at the very top
