I have been working at Premier, Inc. full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

It really is the people that make Premier great. I have been with the company now for 6+ years, in two different divisions, and everyone I have worked with has been intelligent, hardworking, and kind. They are flexible to manage your work life priorities, they do make efforts to show their employees that they are valued, and I trust them to be an ethical company. They appear to be a growing, progressive thinking, and cutting edge company in their field an truly do seem to care about the health of the communities they serve (as is part of the mission statement).

    Cons

Lack of uniformity. Yes they are a GPO, Informatics data, and Consulting company but the lack of uniformity also exists within those three areas. Employees are not trained well to be aware what another group within the same division is doing so work can be duplicated and without standardization. They are making efforts to fixing this but it seems they are moving slow. Also, I'm unsure how competitive their salaries are but ... what employee truly thinks they are being paid enough?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Values is a great place to catch everyone up on what is going on in all the different divisions but more needs to be done to get everyone on the same page within the same areas. Within the consulting side the VPMO seems to be trying to do this so that is good, we'll see how this goes. There needs to be more shadowing, sharing of ideas with peers, guidance to uniformity and standardization. Also, WAY too much email. I think perhaps email is used to try and keep everyone on the same page and that just isn't going to work. Emails from people we don't know about things that don't appear to apply to us just don't get read. If we could make it so even 70% of the email sent to us is important to read and cut out the other stuff that would be very helpful. I'm sure I miss things that I would other wise read because I would have to filter through so much of the unrelated stuff to get to it.

Over all, I am very pleased with Premier and hope I can stay for a long time.

I worked at Premier, Inc. full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The people were great! The pay was good and it felt good doing work that helped the patients in a real way. The opportunities for learning available were good. The special programs were amazing.

    Cons

The training was good but because the workload was so unbalanced some people did not have the opportunity to take advantage of it. Policies were not consistent across units. And the value of Focus on People seems to be suffering the past year or so.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow for more opportunities to take advantage of training across the company as a whole.

I have been working at Premier, Inc. as a contractor for more than 3 years

    Pros

Stimulating work when at member sites. There are many very intelligent people to work with, but on the other hand, there are those not so that are placed in leadership positions, mostly due to long term past relationships.

    Cons

Leaders seem to overlook bad behavior, it's all about getting the dollars
