Pros
The opportunity for growth is fantastic; there are many departments and we are expanding our market-base, which means more jobs.
Commuter, childcare, and medical flex spending accounts.
Anthem PPO & Kaiser healthcare
It's a 5-10 minute walk from BART and the bus terminal. Parking is within the same building and reasonably priced.
Surrounded by restuarants and Whole Foods is practically next door.
Walking distance to Union Square.
Mid-day work day Happy Hours.
Impressive holiday parties.
Ping pong championships.
Some work-from-home opportuntities
Breakfast on Fridays.
PRN has a solid place in the digital-out-of-home network.
Cons
Commuting (if you live outside SF)
Limited offices--mainly cubicle space
No sleep pods like Google.
Advice to Senior Management
Seamless cooperation amongst departments could use some work.
Pros
They have a really great health plan and a good work life balance. Decent location in downtown San Francisco on 2nd street
Cons
A very limited product line. Walmart is their #1 partner and has tremendous influence over the success of this business.
Advice to Senior Management
Diversify, digital signage is a tough sell. This company needs to expand its offering to compete in this tough economy
Pros
Wonderful coworkers from technical to creative
Industry leader in digital out of home advertising
Incredible diversity in staff and business functions
Work/Life balance is easy to achieve
Cons
Company lacks direction, constantly changing focus
Fire-fighting is normal mode of operation
Need to foster a culture where mistakes are allowed
Advice to Senior Management
Pick a direction and drive towards it, stop second-guessing yourself.
Figure out the critical areas where people are making mistakes and get them some backup. It is hard to be a hero every day.
Pros
The company employs smart and talented people, and provides great benefits.
HR is always accessible and very helpful.
Employees who work hard are rewarded and recognized within the organzation.
PRN offers team building events that are unrivaled.
The company offers the right tools needed to get your job done efficiently
There is a good mix of people who have been there a long time, and offer a great amount of wisdom and new people who offer new ideas and bring fresh enthusiasm to the team
Cons
High learning curve - quite technical - not for those who dont have the ability to learn quickly
Pros
Friendly people that always seem available to help me when I need it, think there is a great future for PRN and the industry of TVs in retail, there are a really interesting variety of personalities with creative types that work in the dark (and do amazing work!) and engineers that keep to themselves and marketing and sales people. Nice occasional happy hours and such.
Cons
It's a little disjointed at times with the groups being so different from each other and having a hard time communicating with each other. Lots of meetings.
Advice to Senior Management
Management seems to change its mind about things sometimes.
Pros
flexible
worked aound school schedule
great management team that is very people oriented
not some big corpration that forgets about you
Cons
some nights and weekend calls dealing with old grumpy patients who think you should have been there yesterday with thier supplies
Advice to Senior Management
keep up the good work need to get a new gm because the sub managers all think they are the boss when owner is not around
Pros
In my five plus years working at PRN, I was never disappointed in the challenges and opportunities for doing great work, with great people, in the pursuit of important and fulfilling goals. There was a good deal of genuine innovation and a ton of outstanding, intelligent, fun and highly motivated people in that company. Still are, I believe, and good people continue to enjoy great opportunities for professional development. Some of my favorite colleagues continue to work there.
Cons
The company has been for sale for a couple years and hasn't found a buyer yet, and I believe that ad sales continues to be tough for everyone in that marketplace.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your senior management team and the people who are performing. They deserve to be heard, and their ideas heeded. If you don't trust them more than the whiners and malcontents (every company has their fare share), why are they there?
Pros
Interesting technology, work from home 1 day per week, hard work rewarded, smart coworkers, management does a good job of giving developers the tools they need, training is compensated and encouraged (e.g. night classes)
Cons
No stock options or participation plan, some instability in top management and parent company (Thompson), a little too much bureaucracy and meetings given the size of the company
Advice to Senior Management
Try to cut back on meetings. Keep pushing the latest technology and methodologies. Experiment with Extreme Programming practices. Implement stock options or equivalent incentive program.
Pros
It's generally a pleasant office. But then again, so is a field office for State Farm Insurance. People are nice.
Cons
The company has an identity crisis amidst the fact that it is the biggest and baddest DOOH company out there. Joining PRN is a hit or miss proposition, depending on how much you want out of it.
Advice to Senior Management
Cross-communication is key. Without it, the company will continue to be a sinking ship. Knowledge sharing should be a central aspect of our jobs, not a nice thing to tack on to a year-end presentation talking about how cool we are.
Pros
There are some fantastic employees who are great at what they do and are a pleasure to work with every day.
Cons
The management does not use employees to the best of their abilities and there is a frustrating lack of room for advancement.
Advice to Senior Management
Allow for more professional development opportunities amongst the employees and really look at everyone's strengths and weaknesses in the next re-org.
