Pros
For me,the best reason to work at PricewaterhouseCoopers is that it offers me a very good opportunity to practice.
Cons
too busy,especially the busy season
Advice to Senior Management
I think most of my managers are very good and help me a lot. The only thing that we might
Pros
- Big Four is a great place to obtain valuable work experience
- You're constantly learning new things everyday
- Promotions are pretty much set in stone so you will advance your career every 3 years
Cons
- You will work long excruciating hours (busy season will consist of 16 hour days (seriously)).
- The work can become a bit tedious and boring (but aren't most office jobs like that?)
Advice to Senior Management
- Provide continuous feedback to your team members as it will benefit everyone
- Provide set objectives and goals for the team to achieve
Pros
Diversity of people
Diversity of clients
Diversity of opinions
Lots of Type A personalities to challenge and compete with you
Cons
For some, travel may be a downside.
Advice to Senior Management
Appreciate the people who have technical skills to support delivery. They may not be future owners of the franchise but are critical to the success of the firm.
Pros
It cares about its people and continuously seeks to find new ways to reward them
You can learn from many smart people in the Firm.
Cons
It can be stressful due to unreasonable clients and long hours. As in most companies , the more you advance the more you see the ugly internal politics .although a meritocracy until one makes partner.
Advice to Senior Management
continue to increase the transparency in all that we do
Pros
Money, Money, Money, Money, Money.
Cons
Hours, Hours, Hours, Hours, Hours
Advice to Senior Management
Pay More
Pros
Smart people. Decisive management. Clear direction. They treat their employees very well; compensation and benefits are generous. A great place to have worked.
Cons
Not the best from a marketing perspective. Still a bit of an old boys club. Admins have far too many execs to support.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire more women and minorities. Take more risks to modernize the brand image.
Pros
PwC is the type of company where you can pave your own career path. Generally, coaches and managers are supportive of staff and provide lots of developmental opportunities. If you have proven yourself, the firm will support you in your personal and professional goals.
Cons
Although the firm attempts to be transparent about compensation, there are still some ambiguous aspects of HR policy as with all large firms.
Pros
Your teammates are very knowledgeable and respectful to you in terms of your work and your private life. Thus, your work experience at PwC is very productive because of your teammates.
Cons
You will not be able to switch your industry for the first several years even though you request certain industry as your starting point.
Advice to Senior Management
Management at PwC (managers and above) do not respect your work and life style as well as your interest in future career. As they are influential to those who start careers at PwC, they need to be more considerable to their teammates' interest and future career.
Pros
You work with extremely smart people who are willing to share their knowledge with you. If you are patient enough, you will get challenging work assignments, you just have to prove yourself first by doing a lot of dirty work (i.e. boring assignments). And starting off at a Big 4 will open many doors for your career, whether you leave after 1 year, 5 years, or 10 years.
Cons
Extremely competitive work environment. It seems as if no matter how hard you work, how late you stay, how smart you are, you are never good enough. People can be ruthless at times because of the competitive culture (i.e. "high performance culture"). It is one thing to challenge people to continue to go above and beyond, but when you have co-workers withholding information from the rest of the team in order to shine at that meeting with the partner, that's when you know enough is enough.
Advice to Senior Management
I understand the high performance culture, but continuously telling people that working 60 hours per week the entire year is not good enough will bring down anyone's morale.
Pros
The amount of learning and growth is exceptional. Great choice for anyone willing to work hard.
Cons
Hours can get long during busy season
Advice to Senior Management
Beware of the politics that occur between lower level employees
