Pros
A 40hr week job, decent benefits
Cons
no room to grow low raises
Advice to Senior Management
communicate better with your employees
Pros
company has great products and the infastructure to be dominent in the market. continuous stream of new products are available each season to sell.
Cons
Lack of leadership from senior management. The senior management group lacks the experience and vision to allow employees to grow the business locally. Management has a one size fits all attitude.
Advice to Senior Management
Allow the employees and local management to make decisions. Support the team and stop the constant instability to the operation.
Pros
The company is a hard driving culture that will benefit people who are driven to succeed. Very lean company with many product categories to sell.
Cons
Management is incompetent, if you are a friend or family, you are in the club. Management is more concerned with having a good time at a social function than improving a process or developing a solid selling platform.
The company focuses on nails and screws and gives little attention to other products but expects them to be sold. This is a dying business strategy, customers are either going out of business or being consolidated, if it were not for the high margins they make on Big Box Chains, the company would be a fraction of what is is today.
Advice to Senior Management
Wake up!
Pros
Promotion opportunity - promote from within
Nationwide job availability
Quality Products
I have had many opportunities to advance if willing to relocate. Sales management at some branches work hard to have a presence with the customers and will make great efforts to grow business. I have worked with numerous branches where management had been promoted from within, were successful in the company goals and familiar with how to get there. I did not have this experience working under new management hired from outside the company and unfamiliar with the region.
Cons
Higher sales cost vs competition in some states/areas due to vendor relationships, yet salesman to blame for lost sales
Countless, sometimes conflicting, product promotions from every product department, needing immediate attention and successful sales to report to management.
Too many products demanding attention, too little customers in my market to approach again and again with. Slow market but expected to raise sales or job security is uncertain.
Sales Management has no presence with the accounts/customers
Management will not stay competitive with the market on sales costs to accounts
Management will not offer incentives to gain business from competition / I had at many times had opportunities at business that was lost due to local branch management incompetence and knowledge relating to pricing necessary to be competitive
Sales manager willing to throw you under the bus for his mistake or miscommunications.
Advice to Senior Management
From what I have seen from senior management, I believe the company is in proper hands and has grown invariably in the last few years despite variable market conditions.
Pros
Found a couple co workers who were willing to help. Unfortunately, most of the people had high levels of apathy so they weren't much help. Decent product offerings. Decent stock levels depending on the time of year.
Cons
Too many to list. Long days, low pay. Tons of pressure of management. Many levels of management. Many different departments. Very little relevant communication yet you are slammed with internal email/memos. Incompetent management. Terrible operations staff. Lazy, unmotivated people galore. Culture of group think. Negative atmosphere. Stinky, disgusting office/warehouse setting.
Advice to Senior Management
Scrap the many layers of management. Trust your staff. Respect your employees. Train people properly. Pat people on the back once in a while. Show some respect. Realize people have lives/families.
