    Pros

Stable employment and salary; good people to work with

    Cons

Overloaded with paper work, initiatives that may or may not benefit students, not enough time to spend on adequate instruction due to overload of other systemic responsibilities given to teachers. System jumps from one "new thing" to another without stabilizing and proving worth and value of current program initiatives.

    Advice to Management

Stick to one or two solid programs, prove their value to student learning within PG system, and then add others if required. Honor teachers for their work and students for their need to to learn by reducing the load on teachers with requirements other than instruction.

    Pros

    Healthcare benefits, schedule, exciting, energy-driving

    Cons

The county is too large to be efficiently managed, yet the trend in this county (and others) is to micromanage every little detail of a teacher's job to the point where paperwork takes up 50-60% of my time and even eats into actual instructional time. Professional Development workshops are rote and redundant. The pay is significantly less than adjacent counties (school districts are determined by entire county), yet students are significantly more at risk and needy.

    Advice to Management

Classify your teachers into 5 quintiles and let the top tier teachers have more freedom to plan, connect, and instruct unencumbered. Way to much time is wasted treating all teachers the same. The bureaucracy and politicization of education is its downfall across all of America, but it is very bad here. Further, reach out to your talented teachers and provide an opportunity for them to make more money for the extra time and extra services they provide. Track your better teachers into administration roles (if they want such roles) early enough that they don't leave the system before an offer is made (if such offers are made). Stop freezing your current teachers salaries for extended periods of time but allowing teachers coming into the county from outside to receive steps. I know many teachers who came to PG after me with identical credentials, but make more than me because my salary is frozen and their's is not. Stop expecting more and more and more from your teachers while you pay them less than their publicly published salary scale.

    Pros

There are very few pros to this job. The only thing that comes to mind is the job stability and benefits package.

    Cons

No Support at all. Every single planning period was taken up by professional development, ALL of my planning and grading had to be done at home.

    Advice to Management

If your going to take away all of our planning periods, at least make them useful.

    Pros

I like the fact that we have the freedom of being out on the road and not necessarily have someone watching over you, all of the time.

    Cons

Some of the challenges are the pro-rating issues, and also the union dues that we have to pay, whether we would like a part of the union, or not.

    Advice to Management

Please allow us to be able to choose whether we could be a part of the union or not.
