    Pros

My school was a very nice place to work. Great administration as long as you did your job.

    Cons

Some of the leadership in schools and in the district office treat teachers as if they are incompetent. There is a lack of trust.

    Pros

PWCS provides first year teachers with mentors, some of which are very helpful and care about seeing the new teacher do well. The benefits are very good as well. The schools are very diverse and have families from all walks of life. Most of the parents stayed involved.

    Cons

Some of the professional development opportunities that we were required to attend were useless for special education teachers. Some PD required all of the teachers to be there, and those organizing the trainings did not know what to do with us. We ended up sitting through the same trainings several times throughout the day. This, unfortunately, was the norm. Teachers and administration have their own cliques and it can be difficult for a new teacher. Often promotions were based on favoritism rather than ability and credentials. At times, SOLs seemed to be the only important thing to the administration.

    Advice to Management

Give promotions based on ability and credentials.

    Pros

Very good school system to send your kids. Caring family community. Caring, educated faculty.

    Cons

Student:teacher ratio really needs to be decreased. Pay is stagnant. They will start at decent price but step increases have been frozen about 3 times in the last 9 years.

    Advice to Management

Make people not technology a priority. Students don't care how much you know til they know how much you care. Hard to make those vital connections in crowded classrooms. Well paid teachers will decrease attrition and increase effectiveness.
