Useful Transition From Academia into Industry

Senior Associate (Former Employee) New York, NY

Pros- Reasonable compensation considering difficulty of the work
    - Tremendous amount of learning opportunities early on (esp. from academia)
    - Occasionally interesting projects and/or tasks

Cons- Located in NJ and must usually wait a year to transfer to NY
    - Clients and projects tend to be low in quality
    - Company sticks hard to a formula and does not stray far from it
    - Professional advancement within company is hardly worthwhile
    - Management is typically hands off (could be Pro)

Advice to Senior ManagementI'm not sure it's in their interest to change.

Excellent place to spend the first four-five years of your career

Senior Consultant (Current Employee) New York, NY

ProsWonderful colleagues, who are both smart and are actually nice people. Minimal politics, flat organization, minimal bureaucracy, congenial work atmosphere.

ConsSalaries below market rate, no formal training programs, career stagnation after four to five years. Work related travel that can be stressful for people with families.

Advice to Senior ManagementBetter salaries and other compensation. Flexible working hours. Easing up of the dress code. Better mentoring. Better defined career goals and paths.
