Pros
That you are able to advance in the company very well. i also like the fact that my supervisor rick hoke keeps us informed of all changes that helps us do our job more effiently.
Cons
the only downside of working at printpack is the fact that most of the employes seem to work against one other instead of working with each other to make things work better.
Advice to Senior Management
to get out on the floor and work beside some of the employes to see how things really works. Also get out and talk to employes and find out how they think things could go to make jobs go alot better.
Pros
The corporate offices are exceptional.
Cons
Opportunitie for promotional advancement are limited.
Pros
Family oriented. Made efforts to get rid of the "old boy" system but it still exist and can change in a plant if senior management changes.
Cons
Again, plant specific and if senior management changes so goes the plant.
Advice to Senior Management
When "good old boys" win out over talent, everyone sees it and knows the deal.
Pros
Lifetime employment if you don't make waves
Cons
The owners are excellent people and care for the employees. Middle management acts like owners, suck up to the owners, and really don't care for either their customers or subordinates.
Advice to Senior Management
Replace middle management suck ups with caring people with personalities in alignment with the personal Love family values.
Pros
decent pay and benefits for entry level job
Cons
long, fluctuating hours, very high turnover
Advice to Senior Management
more training
Pros
The company overall at one time was a great place to work, the pay levels are probably some the best in the industry for a non union plant.
Cons
It is very hard to advance on skills alone, there are a lot of politics involved in working there and most promotions are based on the buddy system.
Advice to Senior Management
Management does not pay enough attention to what is really going on in the plant and do not seem to care what goes on unless it affects production.
Pros
It is a stable environment, they take care of their people. You don't see a lot of cut-throat practices. If they like you, they will keep you even if they don't have a position for you immediately. They'll continue to pay you while they find you a more appropriate position to match your skills.
It is a very family oriented enviornment. Family definitely comes first with Printpack.
Although they have their share of "challenging" resources, there are a ton of nice, friendly people that work there at all levels. In general people will go out of their way to help you out.
The annual bonuses aren't too bad when they have a good year.
Cons
Middle management is suspect, and they are often penny wise/pound foolish. In fairness however, I have been told they have recently done a salary comparison to their industy competitors and are on the road to making ammeds with regards to market value for salaries.
The gap between the "have's" and "have not's" is considerable...There is also a lot of dead wood that could use cutting. The company could beenfit from a few ax men or women reviewing each department's staff. They keep people they shouldn't but won't hire for positions they should staff. Their attempts to do more work with less people is legendary among employees. Everyone knows a story about someone who now covers 2 or 3 key positions after the other 1 or 2 people quit.
Advice to Senior Management
Provide more interim goals for employees to attain and consider quarterly or semi-annual bonuses. Although the annual bonuses are pretty decent, when there is a good year, it is a LONG time to wait for another one. The decoupling of reviews and raises/bonuses is also a little wierd too.
