Pros
Above average pay for the area and great co workers. The only other thing it has is that the people you meet the coming in the store and the relationships you get to make with them.
Cons
If you are a salaryed employee you are expected to work atleast 55 to 60 hours a week with no extra incentives. Denver has no clue what is happenning in the yards and how short staffed they are. It seems that Denver keeps hiring and the store need to keep laying off people.
Advice to Senior Management
Get your ducks in a row before you start changing things, and help the yards don't punish them for the slow economy.
Pros
Typically compensation to new employees is higher than market averages.
Cons
To much reactive, unproductive change. ProBuild is quickly evolving into a company that has a revolving door; people leaving as quickly as they come because of mismanagement and lack of care for employees. What was once a company that exhibited care and concern for its workforce is now one that could care less. The best talent is leaving and and new good talent doesn't stick around for long. Word to the wise - negotiate the max compensation up front because you will not receive any adjustments once you get hired on.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop reactive change and allow the company to mature. ProBuild continues to make drastic changes hoping for a quick "solve everything" pill instead of realizing that the change is the primary disruption. You also have an emerging problem with senior leaders who have little to no care for their workforce. The best talent recognizes this and is departing leaving only the perennial under performers. You need to start raising the bar without building a cut throat, negative culture.
Pros
The people that I worked with were very solid and we all wanted to do a good job. The company is owned by Fidelity so they really helped with our retirement fund.
Cons
They need to understand the market and what they are good at, they want national builders but will not support the sales people to take care of them. They are using outdated computer systems.
Advice to Senior Management
Customer service is very important but they do not care. It is up to the sales people to fix things but they are not equipped to do it.
Pros
There are some good, talented people. Company should try to retain these employees before they all leave. The employees really care about the company, too bad management doesn't.
Cons
Promotions are completly based on WHO you know not what you know or what you can do. Most of the team leads dont have a clue how to manage their team or how to effectively use the system. No pay increase in over 2 years. Performance reviews were completed by people you didn't even work with.

Look at what happened to other companies that did what you are doing, they are ALL gone.

Communication from management could greatly improve. Company is currently restructuring.

My opinion is that the management team would benefit with a more involved approach to operations. Goals are easy set to but difficult to reach when training and encouragement is little to none.

There are very smart and talented individuals to learn a ton from . The company allows an individual to develop a broad range of skill sets and encourages individuals to do so...
Cons
The company's direction is foggy and lined with red tape. Senior management needs to stop thinking about their paycheck and make GOOD business decisions; not reactionary ones. Operations wanted to click a button and have the computer think for them. There is no such thing as a standard business process.
Advice to Senior Management
Before implementing a major ERP system, get standard business processes in place. An ERP system is a tool for the business; it shouldn't drive the business processes.
Pros
Started out as a great place to work. New start-up with a great group of intelligent professionals who cared for the organization.
Cons
Inability to make tough decisions, highly political organization. The CEO (BM) is a major flip – flopper and only approves of management that agree with his unsubstantiated position . Was not the type of leader whom I could follow.

Make the tough calls and centralize.

Admins are significantly under paid compared to other companies. The position I have averages $45-60k, we are paid $30-34k.

Truly look at what your admin staff does and re-evaluate job titles and experience and pay accordingly.

Good pay for the most part , although men are paid more than women for the same jobs
Cons
Very political and networked environment. Because Probuild has aquired so many smaller legacy companies, there is an absurd division between who used to be with company x vs. who used to work for company y. Opportunities are much more evident for men than women, and pay is not equal, which is discouraging. There seems to be very little accountibility for mangers from GM level and up.
Advice to Senior Management
Pay attention to your employees...management still feels heavy, while you have some very exhausted long term employees who are wearing too many hats for too many people. These valuable team memebers need your help.
Pros
Work enviornment is very dynamic and Senior Management both understands technology and look to improve the business processes using technology
Cons
Probuild is in the Building Material Industry, which is somewaht weak nowadays.
