    Pros

Good coworkers, solid management, great customer base. Decent amount of job satisfaction at the end of the day.

    Cons

Pay is mediocre at best, hours can be long, work load and responsibilities usually exceed the level of fair remuneration.

    Advice to Management

Pay the people who are a benefit to the company what they're actually worth.

I have been working at ProBuild full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, with shift differential thrown in.

    Cons

Said there would be lots of overtime.. except there isn't when they have people not come in mid-week because they don't have enough wood cut.. but then everyone has to work Saturdays instead! was barely getting in 40 hours. Quotas are ridiculously high and they fire people every week for not meeting them, some people only get a week to prove they can perform up to pa.. others a few weeks or months, but they have no reservations about letting people go without offering ot help them improve

    Advice to Management

how about work with those people you have to increase their production, or LOWER your standards to a safe level. the only way to meet the quotas was to work so fast that people were constantly hurting themselves and messing up the measurements. Quality OVER Quantity.

    Pros

My experience was AWESOME. Even through the downturn! Current executive leadership ROCKED!they had a clear strategic Mission and Vision. The culture they built in the organization was one of a kind!! Kudos and thank you!! Proud to be an employee!

    Cons

Business is cyclical and challenging in our industry and expected if you know the business!

    Advice to Management

Great executive leadership team that current CEO put together. Kudos on that!

I have been working at ProBuild full-time

    Pros

Dynamic ever changing environment that kept my skills sharp. The IT group was a cohesive area that until recently had some really sharp employees. BFS taking over has changed all of that momentum to the negative.

    Cons

Recently taken over by BFS Builders First Source. The technology stack is from the eighties and they do not value any employees. Highly disappointing from a world class IT organization to one that wants to put in green screens.

    Advice to Management

Look at what best in class means and how to apply it to your company. Act like you are a 6 billion a year company and not a mom and pop shop. Technology is everywhere except in BFS

    Pros

Work week Monday thru Friday...all holidays off and coworkers are awesome. Clean building and yard.

    Cons

Management is inexperienced. Care more about your appearance than what you know and they will hire anyone even if they have no experience

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees. Don't take them for granted. It's a lumber yard. Let them dress like they fit in with their customers rather than a business office setting.

    Pros

Lots of good people. Scale. Good compensation. Good benefits. Great opportunity to build relationships and to network with suppliers and customers.

    Cons

Over complicated a relatively simple business. Too many silos and too many agendas.SVPs not accountable for overall business strategy and resistant to change.

    Advice to Management

Stop wasting time and money on projects and people that don't increase revenue and profit. Hold the C-suite more accountable to sustaining objectives and results.

I worked at ProBuild full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very solid group of people to work with, everyone wants to make things better in IT. Management tries very hard to be supportive and allow you to develop. It is a good group of people to work with and very few bad apples.

    Cons

IT works very hard to try to meet the needs of the business with 10 - 40 year old technology and skeleton crew to make it work. New ideas are not embraced by the business because they want to stay doing things they way they have always done it. Very little "NEW" is adopted by the business, and no one seems to care. Most in the company would probably be happy going back to pen and paper to do everything.

    Advice to Management

Don't waste time and money on developing technology and then just expect adoption to occur by osmosis. Support your IT, and don't allow fear mongering around new technology and new ideas.

    Pros

Co-workers, Great people trying to earn a fair living and keep the company profitable. Smart and capable.

    Cons

Highly charged political environment.' Good ole boy network'. None of the CEO or his team communicate honestly. They take care of the executive suite only. Mis-represent the 'truth' about quality and level on contribution to companies growth by other departments or teams. At the sale of Pro build to BFS, CEO granted HUGE retention bonus's given to CEO, CFO, SVP HR and others in executive team. None to employees that keep the lights on.

    Advice to Management

Become principled and ethical...at some point in your career!
