Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the great work
Pros
good opps to advance in org
Cons
negative marketplace makes for a challengin business
Pros
They really allow you to balance work and home life, without making you feel guilty about it. Family really does come first! Reasonable expectation for learning the job. The BEST atmosphere for asking questions I've ever experienced.....you can ask and not feel silly for asking. Excellent training opportunities. Great severance package, especially in this economy!
Cons
Local satellite offices are small with limited advancement if you can't relocate. Layoffs due to asset dispositions and merger. Lots of processes and procedures, hard to actually learn them as opposed to just reading and following them.
Pros
Most co-workers are great and awesome to learn from. A variety of people and locations to work with. Great with volunteer time, company and personal.
Cons
Management flies by the seat of their pants, forget any promotions, very little advancement unless you know the right person. Human Resource avoids phone calls and usually sides with management if you have any complaints. If there weren't so much office politics/critics going on, a lot of work would get done.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat employees with respect and put a thumb on lower management overlooking the department employees. Moral is very low already, help.
Pros
Global company with great opportunities to learn about other countries / customs because management philosophy is to hire locals in every location. They share local market expertise and contribute to the overall success of the company.
Cons
Senior management shake-up combined with market downturn caused unprecedented instability; however, current senior management is working hard to recover from both events.
Advice to Senior Management
Establish and maintain employee recognition program to highlight the contributions and successes of all levels of employees. Positive reinforcement for a job well done inspires others to reach higher.
Pros
Great company and with new CEO at the helm, it is in the right hands. Also, very forward-thinking for a real estate organization.
Cons
Very conservative, not a lot of sharing between departments. Lots of office politics and posturing.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep executing. Loosen up the purse strings with non-management staff.
Pros
They are a leading company in the green movement, and I am truly behind their environmental progress as a company in general and as a global leader in the industry,
Cons
It used to be a nice company to work for. These days the management can be downright predatory to people at all levels within the company, but for the most part, the non-management employees get the worst treatment. This is especially prevalent in the New Jersey offices. The non-management staff have not had raises in two years, while it is an open secret that the management-level folks still receive bonuses and stock options, some so high that they match their salary. Morale is extremely low. If you're not management, then it is likely you feel like a punching bag.
Advice to Senior Management
Get back in touch with employees at all levels of your company. Start rewarding the people you didn't lay off for sticking with you during difficult times. If you had told me two years ago that this is how the company culture would change due to an economic downturn, I would have laughed, but it is nauseating how the management have turned on the employees and each other.
Pros
- Talented colleagues
- Excellent employee development opportunities
- Professional work environment and business practices
- Well respected name in industry, great for resume building
Cons
- A large company with the internal politics and overhead headaches that come with scale
Advice to Senior Management
- Roll that debt
- Don't be too uncompromising in markets outside of US
Pros
Senior Board leadership generally very good but some poor country managers particularly outside the US
Cons
Very biased to US nationals when it comes to promotion
Advice to Senior Management
Get better non-US management in the non-US countryies
Pros
Working for one of the largest industrial REITs in the industry and being able to learn and share with a global network of associates and managers.
Cons
Since the company is a public REIT, it is limited to the direction of shareholders and the general financial market environment. Our stock price is heavily contingent on macroeconomic effects, and it is sometimes negatively misrepresented in the public eye. Stock price should be directly correlated to current performance of real estate assets rather than large scale economics.
Advice to Senior Management
To keep on moving forward with the current business plan of deleveraging and strengthening our balance sheet so that we can be prepared when the financial environment swings for the better.
