I worked at ProMedica full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, 401k, dental, eye, medical, etc. - really nice environment - good people - job security is pretty good unless you are a middle manager

    Cons

Older employees (over age 50) are often laid off - this has been the case for about 4-5 yrs now which is really sad b/c we've lost the best nurses and leaders we had. Doesn't motivate younger new hires to stay. Agree with previous person about PR dept - perfect example. The only person there with experience and who understood nurses and other medical personnel was let go about 2 yrs ago. She worked like a dog for decades and then they cut her. Newer people are nice enough but can not advise like she did. Same in nursing depts - my boss was forced into early retirement and since then dept has been a hot mess.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value employees at all levels of system and stop looking at bottom line vs what's best for our pts--experience - which comes with older employees! Focus more on hospital and communityservices that most benefit pts vs. buying up or building more places for Promedica. How can a NON profit spend millions on moving it's employees from one bldg to the next? This appears to be a huge waste of money. If you really care about the community quit laying off long time employees -THAT is bad for the local economy!

I worked at ProMedica full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Absolutely loved working here. Everyone is fabulous. My department felt like my family. Many discounts offered for local venues and services.

    Cons

Very limited office space. Closets were turned into work areas. A lot of the desks and chairs we're older and falling apart.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Buy more properties to allow for adequate office space. The management team is great. There is support from all levels of management.

I have been working at ProMedica

    Pros

Intra-team communication is great, everyone is willing to help each other out. Ample resources are provided to help perform job duties.

    Cons

Teams do not communicate with each other. Management seems out of touch with what is possible. Hiring is extremely slow, no matter how urgent a position needs to be filled

Current Employee - Dispatcher in Toledo, OH
Current Employee - Dispatcher in Toledo, OH

I have been working at ProMedica full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Work schedule is somewhat flexible.
Very easy going environment, for the most part.
    I enjoy my coworkers.

    Cons

For being a healthcare provider that runs its own insurance company, they do not offer fair coverage/rates for employees.
Wage rates are extremely low and unfair; Emt's and Paramedics who work transport make approximately $2 per hour less than competitor companies, even companies that generate less money than ProMedica.
Dispatchers are responsible for initiating patient transports via 3 helicopters, 12 ambulances, and 5 ambulettes, yet are paid an average of $7 per hour less than competitors in the area.
Management gives major lip service, they do not even pretend to have employees best interest in mind.
    High turnover rates.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cross train employees; road crews can see what it is like to work in the comm center, and dispatchers can experience work on the road. Hopefully it would lessen animosity between departments.
Provide training to dispatchers more than just when they are new hires; provide incentives to those who choose to obtain higher education.
Compare our numbers to those of Mercy Health System, and pay competitive wages.
Pay a bonus to people who reach milestones with the company: 5, 10, 15 years and so on.
Encourage employees to maintain a healthy life style: provide free memberships to the ProMedica fitness center.
When there is a job opening, encourage human resources to fill the position quickly with a qualified candidate; do not simply hire a person just to say the spot is filled.
Crack down on people who about the attendance policy.
