    Pros

not a lot of bs or red tape. you get to work with the clients directly without unnecessary layers

    Cons

you often work on two projects at a time which can some times be distracting but i like to mix it up so not a big deal

I worked at Proace Technology Consulting full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Beautiful office downtown, that they can't afford.

    Cons

All of ProAce's MANY problems begin and end with the CEO. He is the worst kind of fool: a fool who thinks he hung the moon. Google "Narcissistic Personality Disorder"...that's him. He's cheap (he'll pay for a bigshot office, but charges employees for soda and buys the worst coffee), doesn't understand technology, demands absurdly fast solutions, and blames everyone but himself for everything. He's a joke, and everyone working with him knows it.

    Advice to Management

Advice to CEO: Go back to Best Buy. Advice to Management: Find a better job before His Highness decides to can you on a whim.

I worked at Proace Technology Consulting full-time

    Pros

I can't say that he'll be the best man at my wedding but the owner was generally approachable. The rest of the team was strong at what they did, and enjoyable to work with as well. Not the workplace you dream of, but definitely a step up from the other experiences I've had.

    Cons

You have to roll with the punches of working for a small company so hope for and enjoy the highs.

I worked at Proace Technology Consulting full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Very good full time development staff (now 2 people!)

    Cons

The company lacks any sort of leadership or management. This might be the only software shop in the world with any project management or QA experience. Projects routinely go over budget or get canned by the owner or they just get forgotten until clients get annoyed. Knowledge of software and s/w development practices is non-existent. The number of staff revolving through the place is crazy and owner seems to randomly fire people. There's no focus on types of project - they'll take anything that has a check attached.

    Advice to Management

Actually manage the business and spend some time looking at how competitors successfully complete software projects.

I worked at Proace Technology Consulting full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Laid back team. Access to executives. Lotsof visibility into projects. You get to work on different projects and with many different technologies. Pretty relaxed work environment. Tons of atonomy in your work.

    Cons

This is not a job for those who just want to kick back and wait for the day to be over. It can be very demanding and stressful at times with deadlines and deliverables.

    Advice to Management

    continue focus on client satisfaction

    Pros

:: Paycheck, average at best given the town and industry :: Some of the employees are good to know though beaten down through years of mis-management.

    Cons

:: Owner is disliked by everyone, never shows up to work and sucks all the money out of the company. He also promises equity that never gets delivered (in my case and heard the same from others) :: Hiring manager is also the only sales guy :: Clients always overpromised with no ability to deliver :: Projects handed to contractors and told to get it done with no guidance, specification, PM or control over the client :: The only people doing any work in the whole company are the developers :: There's no room to develop professionally there, it's a developer sweat shop.

    Advice to Management

Leave the software consulting industry to folks who know software and consulting

    Pros

This place had gone through some rough and lean times but new management is in place and things are definitely looking up. New business is growing and is mostly fun work, making it much easier to keep the more talented folks interested. Unlimited potential for growth and learning. The team is generally passionate for what they do and is a very intelligent group. Definitely one of the more exciting and rewarding stages of my career.

    Cons

Deadlines can be stressful at times and this is not a stop for a 'punch the clock' type of person. If you're not passionate about what you do it may be easy to get burned out.

    Advice to Management

Keep the changes made over the last half year in place and continue going after the challenging and interesting projects. Keeping the team engaged is key.

    Pros

Light atmosphere when there are no deadlines looming and things are going well for the company. There is a Foosball table that people can play at when they are tired or stressed, and the office has a nice view.

    Cons

Bad leadership that cares more about money and cutting corners than keeping employees or clients happy. The salaries at Proace are below average for the industry and bonuses are based on project budget used and not dependent on effort or quality of work. Very few projects at Proace come in under budget so that means you cannot expect to get a bonus even if you regularly work 50 hour weeks. Turn over is also very high at this company and its hard to have high morale when you keep seeing people you have been working with leave.

    Advice to Management

Learn to deal with people better, give them their due, and don't get emotional over nothing. When a lot of people are frustrated by bad policies and mistreatment, you need to take a hard look at yourself and not blame others for the problems you have created.

    A startup without much direction

    Pros

A relatively young and vibrant employee-base, this was a great place to make friends. The client-base provided a variety of opportunities to work with different technologies.

    Cons

Senior management doesn't seem to have much direction on where they're taking the company. When the contracts stop coming in, expect to see people getting laid off. Quality of the code produced on client projects is sometimes on par with rent-a-coder quality with the number of younger, inexperienced developers at the company.

    Advice to Management

Need improvement on screening process for employees. It's disheartening to work with developers who need to be hand-held for everything.
