    Pros

    A small business with reasonable compensation and a pleasant work environment. The family who owned the business really did make an effort to raise morale. A lot of camaraderie among the work force, and some great parties.

    Cons

    Senior Management was not nearly as talented as they seemed to think they were, which was obvious to almost everyone (except Senior Management apparently). The family sold the business to P&G who subsequently closed it down and laid off almost 100 folks in the worst economy in quite some time. They liked to tell staff they were "family", but you do not sell your family.

    Advice to Management

    Actions truly do speak louder than words and just telling people otherwise and expecting them to blindly believe it is not logical.

    Pros

    P&G is very structured with principle and discipline. You will gain vast experience within the company working in cross functional teams.

    Cons

    P&G is a very large company. Therefore, its structure may prohibit some talent individuals due to its career advancement paths.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the strong leadership to lead the company and employees touching life everyday through good and bad economic situations.

    Pros

    - If you get a good manager you are set. - Management has been pretty open to taking time off. - Pay and benefits are pretty decent as long as your ratings stay decent. - Recognition for hard work is good with the right management. - Potential to get a well rounded view of the company due to the many role transitions

    Cons

    - Your success or failure is completely dependent on what kind of relationship you have with your manager. - Too many politics need to be played just to get promoted or even get a good rating. - Ratings are NOT based on the feedback you receive from your "customers" it is largely based on the political game and if your "higher up" feels like battling for your during ratings. - If you wind up being rated the lowest no raises are given, yet, your benefit costs continue to rise. - Company boasts having work/life balance and opportunities to work a variety of flexible work arrangements that won't penalize you at ratings. However, this is all dependent on if your direct manager lets you actually take advantage of this "benefit" the company offers. - While the pay can be good, it can take a nose dive when you factor in the work that has to come home with the people stuck in high stress jobs - Conflicting guidance from management - first they want everything to tie out to the penny, then, they say to get data faster and not worry about tying everything out, then, they go back to wanting everything to tie out to the penny. Make up your mind. - Interns get hired directly into management positions rather than promoting employees who have been here working in the ditches. Better to come in as an intern or get recruited straight from college if you are looking for a management role. Outsiders that get hired in get hired in at the bottom and spend years attempting to work their way up only to find a thick glass ceiling between the lowly specialists and management.

    Advice to Management

    Pay attention to the little guys. The people doing the grunt work. Keep them happy and you will have more dedicated employees willing to stick it out. Don't insult us by hiring kids in above us to be our managers when we have been with the company for so much longer. Reward those here and live up to the "promote within" idea. Take into account what others actually have to say about employees during ratings rather than leaving it up to one person who may or may not like the person and probably has their own agenda. Penalizing low rated employees by not giving them at least a cost of living increase is a great way of screwing someone over who has already been knocked in the teeth. Great way to drive people out whether they deserved the low rating or not.

    Pros

    Having P&G on your resume makes you very marketable to other companies. There are some non traditional roles available for people with science backgrounds.

    Cons

    Short of having a Bachelors in Engineering you will be a second class citizen. The R&D system is truly flawed. People with bachelors or masters degrees in a scientific discipline come in 2 levels underneath those with bachelors degress in engineering. If you have a science background you will not come in as a manager (like your classmates in engineering will). All of the effort is put into developing engineers for leadership roles. People with science backgrounds are expected to be a pair of hands in the lab. You may luck up and get a manager who gives you the opportunity to do the type of work that the engineers get to do but expect to get paid $20-30K less for the same work. What they don't tell you when you are interviewing is that only a very small percentage of people with science backgrounds ever get the 2 promotions necessary to get them to the entry level position for an engineer. For the few who do, the average timing is 10 years. It is very common for a person with 15+ years with the company who came in with a bachelors/masters in science to be managed by someone with a bachelors in engineering who is right out of college. To add insult to injury, any degree that you obtain while working for P&G does not help you advance. The expectation is that the new degree will just enhance your abilities within your current role. Also, those coming in with a PhD in a scientific discipline will enter at the same level as a bachelors in engineering. (P&G loves their engineers!) On another note, you can also expect to spend your time imitating your competitors b/c the culture has gone away from taking the risks associated with being innovative and has instead gone to a copycat paradigm.

    Advice to Management

    Stop recruiting over qualified people for researcher positions. If the idea is to get people into a system with limited opportunity for advancement that develop a strong expertise in executional work, then go back to the old model where you recruited high school graduates and train them to do the researcher work. You are bringing in young college graduates with high potential for growth and then trying to limit their mobility and this is causing very bad morale among this group of employees. Also, lets get back to being category leaders by focusing on long term strategic growth as opposed to prioritizing short term copycat initiatives.

    Pros

    Almost all people at the "Group Manager" level or below are phenomenal people both personally and professionally.

    Cons

    Management doesn't care about people, they make it well known that you are replaceable. Nothing like being told you can be "promoted" and then you can't find an open job at the level so they tell you to either take a job at a lower level or leave the company. Management will give conflicting direction within the same call: increase production but lower inventory, reduce capital but go out and buy all this stuff.

    Stop and actually listen to what you actually are saying.

    Pros

    Great learning environment - P&G invented market research and are on the cutting edge in the field. The people are top notch and CMK is recognized as a valued member on multi-functional teams.

    Cons

    CMK went through a restructure in 2009. More and more consumer work is outsourced to agencies that the technical expertise within the CMK function is likely to decline.

    Pros

    Excellent benefits, flexibility to manage work and home life, outstanding career opportunities and training. Most of all, a very competent organization which makes work fun and challenging. I have become a better person at work and at home because of my experiences and training at P&G.

    Cons

    The pressure to do well is enormous and the competition is tough for promotions.

    Advice to Management

    Continue to focus on rewarding contributions and recognizing strengths in the world of fewer promotions.
