Director of security operations at Union Station in Washington DC

Director of Public Safety (Former Employee) Washington, DC

ProsThe company has been at Union Station for less than one year so I feel its a great challenge for a career minded individual.

ConsThe organizational structure is very confusing at times. Basically feels like you are handed the keys to a brand new car without a test drive.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhen you take over a contract start the first day the same as you would your last. Come in the door organized!

    Never work for this company

Security Officer (Current Employee) Santa Ana, CA

    ProsJob is very active outside

ConsYou honestly can't trust your teammates. Everyone rats on each other on everything just to get ahead.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you want people to stay you may want to hire professional supervisors that dont fart in your face all day and talk about their xxx life and how they get it on. It may also help if they stop letting formal employees park in the back of the top level parking structure and get it on with their girlfriend when I was told when hired thats not allowed on property. The shady activities I see take place at work has me looking for new work. I will never work for P.S.C again in my life and will never shop at a mall run by a P.S.C staff. If the shady dealings keep up I will seek legal advice.

    Response to written reviews

Security Guard (Current Employee) Lake Havasu City, AZ

ProsNot much they hire you even if you are a deadbeat.

ConsAfter reading some of the responses about PSC I would have to say they are very CORRECT. I would rate PSC a 1 star why? they literally have gone through as many people as a village you may live in that is a good size. Most of the employees are nice NOT ALL some are BULLY'S and throw their body weight around. some extremely short tempered some you would NOT want as friends outside of work some can be so nice on the phone two seconds later BULLY TIME that is NOT a joke or over reacted. Some its like walking on eggshells you say something wrong and forget it the remaining time you're with this person you wish you were any where but at work. Management knows about.this but they are so short handed unless something is done to you physically there is nothing they can do. The worst thing is they are extremely paranoid that you could get hurt if your not 100 percent. I tell these people NEVER underestimate another person by appearance this person may SURPRISE YOU..I've been with PSC a long time over 5 years so I do know this company rather well no I would not recommend this company to work for unless you're a BULLY or desperate for a job. Just be open minded and be ready to be degraded from time to time. GOOD LUCK! (You'll need it)

Advice to Senior ManagementPraise long term employees it's ok to start out with low pay if you keep the employee pay as much as you would expect. PAY FOR HEATHCARE, CHILDCARE ELDER CARE VISON CARE offer 401 K. Make the top 10 BEST companies to work for. NOT the top ten employers NOT to work for. I think your turnover will fall if you treated the employees with respect which you do not. you have over 20,000 employees which have gone through PSC and it's not like your the largest Security firm in USA or you have been in the business for 100 years look at these reviews there are more negative then positive so this is not the only bad review in your list.

Easy job. I work my shift and go home, no drama or issues with peers.

    Security Officer (Current Employee)

ProsDirect deposit offered, pay is always on time, easy job, straight-forward. I keep all inquiries within the staff of the contract that I work, have never interacted with corporate. Young director but our relationship is awesome. His job is hard, I do my part so that I can be one less employee to worry about.

ConsMy specific site tends to hiring younger, less mature individuals with behavioral issues who have a thing for horsing around and destroying property (including the work truck, detex devices, office space, uniforms) or escalating situations, and it's tolerated.

High turnover, low expectations for guards. High demand for supervisors and higher

Security Director (Current Employee) Los Angeles, CA

ProsFull time hours always there, cool special events available. Will find hours/work for you even if removed from accounts.

ConsLow support from corporate, high turnover of guards, recycle guards that have been removed from one position to another. No real opportunities for advancement within region.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest more time into training and into growing relations between field & corporate employees. It sometimes feels like 2 completely different companies.

Horrible company to work for. Backstabbing. Greedy. Shady. Dirty. Retaliation galore.

    Security Officer (Former Employee)

ProsIt is a good entry level security gig but there are much better companies out there. Working with people was good and helping others was also very good. Other officers were great. Made a lot of friends through this company with other staff.

I also made a lot of law enforcement, fire, and EMS contacts as you get to interact with these people on a daily basis as they respond to incidents on site. They make great references for future employment.

ConsCorporate management is a joke. They do not care about their employees period. Had to threaten a civil lawsuit to get paid for vacation time I took and was accepted in taking. After I took it they refused to pay me the vacation time. Then it turned out they actually owed me more time than what I originally thought.

They make you pay for everything. Your uniforms (about 200 dollars) and your gear. Equipment breaks constantly and they either never replace it forcing you to buy more gear - or it takes them months to replace broken stuff. Everything they buy is the cheapest bottom line stuff they can get.

You get paid $8.00 an hour while they charge the client 25.00 an hour per officer.

Shady and backstabbing. They will fire you if you make a complaint. If they can not find a reasonable way to fire you right away they will create one sometime down the road. Staff was constantly threatened with "If you complain we are a at-will employment." In other words if you have a complaint you will be replaced.

Complete lack of consistency in enforcing policy. You will be written up for the same thing your supervisors are also doing wrong...and they will get away with it.

They force you to pay for training aids. (CPR books and so forth) If you do not pay for them you can not be trained and thus - you're fired.

The only time you see your regional manager is to be yelled at about something. VERY little if any praise for the stuff you actually do right.

You will also be disciplined in front of other officers. No privacy in that matter.

Policy changes on a whim and you are expected to know policy changes even though they do not announce it nor produce documentation of the changes. This is a way for you to easily get fired.

NO chances for moving up. AT ALL. They never hired directors from with in the staff. They always hired outside individuals with minimal qualifications and experience as directors. Our post went through 10 directors in 5 years. What does that tell you?

The longer you stay the more they try to get rid of you. You know too much.

Benefits are a rip-off and a complete joke.

Offices are always in cramped spaces. It was like that in every mall this company had in the region. Small dirty offices. No way to relax or anything during a break. Unsanitary.

Morale among staff is low because of horrible treatement, horrible work conditions, and negative attitudes from management. No praise. Just everything you are doing "wrong".

No values. They want to make money. They flat out admit that to you. They are a business in making money. Not to care about you. You are expendable.

You will also be expected to sign your life away. Double shifts. Force overnight shifts. Say goodbye to your personal and education life. Cause you will not be able to have it.

    STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart caring about your employees and their work conditions. Quit threatening employees who make complaints. Instead, look into those complaints and ask yourself "How can we do things better?"

Knock off the retaliation. One day you're going to get sued or charged when you mess with the wrong person.

Start praising your employees in front of other staff and dealing with their issues in private. Not the other way around.

Give staff good gear the lasts. Replace gear that breaks. Your lack of replacing gear creates officer safety concerns. It's a wonder none of your staff have been seriously harmed or killed due to faulty equipment.

Micromanaging Supervisors always on your back treating you with no respect

Security Officer (Current Employee) Trumbull, CT

    ProsLots of Hours, Easy job

ConsForced Overnight shifts, no breaks, have to be at work 15 minutes before shift ready to go with out pay, management treats employees horribly.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't tell staff they are fired if they don't work a forced overnight after an evening shift. Don't try and make staff work 3 shifts in a row, Don't embarrass employees in front of other staff.

Great Company with Opportunities for Growth

Administrative Staff (Current Employee) Los Angeles, CA

ProsFamily Environment, Good co-workers, professional, always trying to be innovative. I have worked at different places and this place although not perfect has great opportunities for growth.

ConsI really do not have lots of cons. I think they should challenge some of the employees more and give them the opportunity to grow... but overall a good company.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend money training employees so they can learn new skills that can be beneficial to you.
