I worked at Progeny Systems Corp. full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The work was challenging and interesting. It was a job that paid the bills.

    Cons

No medical leave No real management/oversight of remote sites Favoritism is rampant No advancement Managers are inexperienced and unqualified to lead You're just another "number"

    Advice to Management

Your people are your Company's life! Treat them as such and stop playing favorites with your buddies you've known or worked with for years. Put in place a true mentorship program that identifies areas for improvement and advancements that identify a career path, within the company. Also, reign in your remote sites. Policies are haphazardly identified and executed with almost zero oversight to ensure proper execution (CMMI and Inventory). Finally; Hire some real managers. If Mr. Kitonis truly wants a fair and decent company to work at, then he must look to his managers to set the bar. Many of the managers I've worked and interacted with have very little experience with what it means to truly lead a diverse group of individuals. The mangers at Progeny Systems keep this once great company, nothing more than just another place to work.

I worked at Progeny Systems Corp. full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Pros: If you enjoy an environment of command and control where you are not allowed to think, you will love this place. They are really good a blowing smoke.

    Cons

Cons: Where to begin. That place is without a doubt the most dysfunctional, disorganized, chaotic place in the history of mankind. They really think they are rock stars, but they are really the absolute kiss of death to any development project.

    Advice to Management

Take a close look at your processes and management approach. Your inability to recognize that your way is the only way is the primary obstacle to success.

    Pros

Great benefits. Flexible work schedule. Company generously rewards hard work and good attitude. Great opportunity to help develop, design and build products to protect our nation's soldiers.

    Cons

Company struggles with releasing employees who don't fit in. Management lacks skills to manage effectively. Opportunity for advancement in most areas does not exist. Job titles don't accurately reflect place in company. Management can sometimes be compared to a college fraternity complete with hazing.

    Advice to Management

Take better care of your good people by listening to what they have say.

    Pros

The company has good benefits, flexible work schedule, and went an extra step to make sure that employees were happy at work. The company is also full of very competent minds and made work a joy.

    Cons

The upper-level management seemed to promote lower-level managers with little regard for actual management skills. Sometimes it was difficult to access management because they would not be available.

I worked at Progeny Systems Corp. full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Initially when I started with the organization there was a great work/life balance. Soda, snacks, and monthly Costco trips were common-place. So was Nerf Gun battles between offices. Around 2008-2009 this all ended. The organization shifted to a more hard-core approach and eliminated any of the free office benefits. The organization still has a good reputation in the industry and some really talented folks working for them.

    Cons

Drastically below-average salaries Management does not heed advice Focused purely on Defense Contracts and does not utilize talent well Many talented folks leaving No support for the IT department. The current CIO is a Network guy who's been with the organization since it was a single small office. Management does not want to spend the money on IT infrastructure.

    Advice to Management

Provide training to management Do not promote people just because they've been there a long time, promote people with management skills
