Pros
Flexible work schedules once you have worked there awhile and employee 401k compensation are very competitive versus other similar companies.
Cons
Job opportunities are limited if you do not meet a multitude of job performance objectives on a monthly and quarterly basis.
Advice to Senior Management
I would be great if more positions would open up where you do not have to be living locally close to headquarters.
Pros
money was good, and some of the people were great.
Cons
scheduling can be a pain. company makes changes and the information was not disseminated well.
Pros
Working for Progressive has been a very positive experience for a working environment. The people are great, I've had multiple supervisors that I got along with well, and I enjoyed the culture, the decorations of the buildings, and the fact that there are many venues for even low end employees to provide feedback to senior management (including blogs, feedback tools, surveys and more). The company is financially stable, profitable, and it's only getting better. The advertising with Flo (and the new Messenger character) has been making the phones ring, and you can see from the public filings that the company is grew more than every major competitor in the auto insurance industry last year. This is going to make for a place where you can feel secure that your job should be safe for quite some time - and on top of that, yearly bonuses are based on certain measures of the company's success - last year was a strong year for this bonus, and signs are still good for more.
Cons
Career advancement, particularly from the contact center, has been non existent. After multiple years of working for the company, and looking for areas to advance both within the same department and in other areas, I've come to the determination that when you're in the contact center, you're stuck there. Of probably a couple hundred people I've had the honor of knowing in my time with the company, I've seen one or two advance to a better position. The most you can generally hope for is a lateral move, and even that is exceptionally difficult to pull off.
Advice to Senior Management
Career advancement opportunities need to be available for a lot more employees. There are a lot of bright, intelligent, charismatic and educated people sitting in entry level positions with the company right now - and they have no place to go but to other companies.
Pros
Flexible work schedule. great bonus program. Different opportunities for career advancement.
Cons
Make IT flexible enough to support business needs
Pros
This is a very friendly place to work at. The managers are almost like your friends and are very comfortable to just talk to. Very nice facilities!
Cons
Management takes some time to get back to you. Decisions take a long time to happen and that is a downer.
Advice to Senior Management
You guys are awesome and very friendly. I loved working there, if only the location of your data center was better it would be a dream job!
Pros
benefits, pay is somewhat ok
Cons
where to start, everything. did i studder? work/family balance is miserable. if you say anything your an outcast and your life is miserable
Advice to Senior Management
none
Pros
Very good training, they invest a lot in their people
Very good people, everyone knows what they are doing
Supportive team leaders
Cons
Lots and lots of hours are required, and frankly expected... but you aren't supposed to work them due to overtime laws!
No outside of the box thinking at all, just get it done
Too much work to reasonably complete up to a good standard.
Advice to Senior Management
Overall the company is doing well, especially with the new marketing that it is doing. Where it falls flat is not being competitive in their pricing.
As an employee it would be nice if you would come out and tell people... we care about customer service, but only in-so-much as you can get all of your work done in a day.
Pros
Started here fresh out of University...great advancement, as far as salary was concerned
Good management, depending on the department you work in.
Willing to give someone the training they need to start
Cons
but job advancement is only possibly if a) you work in a tremendously large office with plenty of turnover (not hard to find in some locations); or b) willingness to relocate.
Pay seems to be lower than some other companies with similar positions
Advice to Senior Management
Don't forget what the job is all about when you advance to a management position. Difficult work with little recongnition does not make for a healthy work environment.
Pros
Competitve salary, training to get licensed, encouraged to apply for promotions.
Cons
Management style varies within departments. There are some managers that would not help if you were attempting to move up, but others did what they could to prepare you. Focus of company was changing from customer service to numbers orientated.
Advice to Senior Management
Encourage employees to make the most of advancement opportunities.
Pros
Good People to work with. They hire mostly new college grads and everyone has fun.
Nice office space...a lot better than some dumps
Cons
work load is very very heavy
time goals are unrealistic
BI field work sucks going into the ghetto to get releases signed
Advice to Senior Management
I think that they should staff a little more and keep more current on technology so you can work smarter.
