Lots of phone time with customers as is call center Schedules can be difficult to change and your need to be forward thinking for time off and put in early as it is always approved based on business needs

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More short breaks for a quick walk around to relieve stress at times is needed Listen to peoples complaints and try to resolve as such a high turnover it is a revolving door of people.

I worked at Progressive Insurance full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Laid back work environment great place to work.

    Cons

Company says they like to hire within don't believe it. I have 15 years insurance experience and have owned m own insurance agency. I was number 1 in sales for the whole comapny in 2012 and was in the top 3% close ration that year as well. I interviewed and applied for several marketing jobs and wasn't hired for any of them. I think they like to hire people that have no clue about the insurance industry that they can mold them to their way of thinking. SO if you get a job there really no point in trying to be the best because the person next you makes the same amount of money as you do even if you are #1. Good place to work if you can't find anything else and just need something, not a career move for sure.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay people that preform more especially in sales.

    Pros

Benefits are great, easy to take time off, managers typically work well with your needs. Lots of opportunity to move up!

    Cons

Some people complain about promotions: I moved up rather quickly though. If you make the most of your time, you can move up quickly.

I have been working at Progressive Insurance full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Gain share bonuses, ability to shift/alter your schedule the same day, you have a lot of control over your scheduling, fun environment, tolerant culture, lots of events for the employees, monetary bonuses for your performance

    Cons

You will not advance far without having your degree, hours/shifts offered are limited...also company is moving towards a performance based schedule bid system, must work mandatory 8 holiday hours per year, limited employment options without a degree regardless of your past work experience, customer service position is also "soft sales" meaning you are required to make certain offers to the customer (part of your metrics)

    Pros

Great work/life balance, OT always available, large bonuses, friendly coworkers, open door HR policy

    Cons

Not much room for advancement, Claims department is highly sought often and space is limited. Also, some higher level jobs seemed to select their candidates- playing favorites was apparent

I have been working at Progressive Insurance full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Progressive is possibly the best company I have ever worked for.

The workplace is very relaxed. There's not really a dress code unless you're in management. There's usually some sort of event going on to get away from work-stress...farmer's markets, cultural education events, etc...

The gainshare program is fantastic. Work efficiently and effectively, get a nice bonus at the end of the year.

Compensation is right at the national average (but is generous for the position). Benefits are very affordable.

Managers are very understanding of personal issues and are willing to work with you in case of family hardships. Schedules are also fairly flexible, especially if you are still continuing your education.

The higher ups actually take time to visit even tier 1, listen to calls, and provide feedback. I'm talking about the CEO and his direct reports, not just "upper" management.

Programs are in place to move up in the company. Mentoring, shadowing, etc...

    Cons

Tier 1 management is a bit of a revolving door (though, not entirely due to attrition). It can be tough when you have a new manager every year. Due to this, you can get a so-so manager that doesn't really understand the Service Desk job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some stability in tier 1 management. Experienced and motivated managers there can set the company up with really good entry-level talent.
