Just another Shady Recruiting agency!

I have been working at Prosum full-time for more than a year

Pros-They provide some snacks and meals on certain days if you stay late
-They train when you first start off so you know the terminology and what to look for in candidates/resumes

Cons- Management has little ethics and moral obligation. The only obligation is what money they pocket at the end of the day so you're their little minions.
- Little to no transparency for entry level and low-level recruiters. They pretend that they do give you transparency but in reality, the weekly meetings are really to put people down and continually pressure you to make money for the company. It's in such a negative light that most recruiters walk out feeling defeated and humiliated.
- Management likes to put out a lot of talk but in reality, they never walk the talk or follow what they preach. In the end, they yell at you for not doing something but they themselves would never follow.
- Pay is horrible! They give you this grand plan (or scheme) in how you'll make loads of dough but the people really making money there are the Managers who've been there 5+ years. Other than that, you'll be making peanuts and barely getting by on your rent and expenses.

Advice to Senior ManagementQuestion yourself and not scapegoat on recruiters who make low wages to barely make a living.

Good management team but high turn over rate in staffing.

Pros1 Training. 2 Locations have professional environments. 3 If you exceed your expectations, there is little micro-management. 4 Management team is overall personable and relatable. Most of them started out as recruiters so they understand the grind and hustle.

ConsHigh turn-over rate. It's daunting when you come in as a new team member and see other "senior" recruiters start to fall off between 1-2 years tenure. Most senior recruiters from 2013 are no longer there. The setting is cubicles on cubicles so expect little to no privacy. The environment is overall professional but you need thick skin to work there. Mistakes are made fairly public. Expect the grunt of certain client managers in front of the whole team. Overall the intention is good but it's very humiliating to say the least. And no one wants to go to work after that. They'll just tell you to 'not take it personal'.

Advice to Senior ManagementEmployees out of Prosum are typically well rounded professionals. But do more to keep the morale up within the office. Don't befriend your employees as a manager. They need a leader, not a confidant. Recognize those who are of value to the team, not just as defined by monthly placements. Give opportunities to everyone. Not just good looking front desk admins.

1,000% Incompetent

I have been working at Prosum as a contractor for less than a year

ProsThere's little Pros to working here other than being onsite with the client.

Cons- No support for contractors onsite.
- Bottom-line driven
- Take a huge chunk of contractor's rate and provide zero support
- HR has high turnover and is absolutely incompetent

Advice to Senior Management- Be more reasonable regarding the fees you get for placements
- Your main clients have an extremely steep learning curve. It would be in your best interest to have real practice managers in place.
- Bridge the gap between your home office and the contractors onsite. You realize we're outsiders onsite at the client as well, right?

Employment Agency

ProsFriendly workers, nice office, good location, friendly place, snacks and free food

ConsBig turn over rate, this is a 100% temp agency trying to pretend that is it some up scale consulting firm, the people who work here have little or no training, the recruiting department is a disaster, cramped small office with 2-3 people per office and cubicle. The consulting dept. needs help, inexperienced people work here. They boast about their big clients, when all they did was place employees there to work, because this is a job employment agency.

Advice to Senior ManagementWhat exactly are you consulting? There is no shame in being an employment agency.

Most inexperienced group of recruiters!

ProsNot may pros all recruiters start out on a draw commission plan. Lots of career opportunities to share with candidates versus other firms that struggle to bring in business.

ConsManagement has no clue what they are doing. There are over 30 recruiters at Prosum and they have a difficult time filling requisitions. Client Managers bring in the jobs and expect junior recruiters with less than 1 year of experience to fill highly specified technical roles. There is no leadership or training. They preach about values and employee growth but have no instances of this actually happening.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement needs to be re-evaluated, many of the Senior Management staff was not successful in the staffing business themselves so it is difficult for them to mentor junior recruiters. Management play favorites and allows employees that embezzle company funds and lie continue to work at the company. I would not recommend this company to any candidates looking for work or employees looking for talent.

Best HR team ever!

ProsThe Human Resources team is the best I've ever worked with. They genuinely care about their job and employees and go out of their way to serve.
Management sets clear expectations for the Staffing team and not too much micro-managing goes on. They are very understanding when it comes to family and working remote if sick or taking care of home life. Prosum pays for weekly breakfasts and lunch, and maintains a stocked kitchen. Comp plans are generous, consisting of a non-recoverable draw to start (DOE) and given the option of a $50K base with 10% commission after 1 year. They are also very approachable and listen to feedback.

ConsThere is a great deal of unfairness. Several un-productive senior account managers should be fired but aren't. Many recruiters received a pay raise this year and were told to keep it a secret. I agree with the raises but don't understand why the rest of the team wasn't informed. I thought Prosum had values??

Advice to Senior ManagementStop playing favorites and be transparent with your team.

Great culture, but lacks in strategy

I have been working at Prosum

ProsThe company has a fantastic culture and a lot of great people work there, both in the staffing and consulting divisions. Management listens to their employees and have implemented a lot of changes in the past several months, including a salary plus commission at the 1 year mark for the recruiters.

ConsWhile there have been changes implemented there is a serious lack of strategy in the recruiting division (I can't speak on behalf of the consulting). One of the main recruiters who spearheaded the staffing division over 10 years ago holds the bulk of the business at the company (many of them referrals from the consulting division of which he had steamrolled his business) and while they have beefed up their recruiting team to keep up with this demand, most of the recruiters feel like they are just paid admin maintaining his and a couple more tenured recruiter's businesses (again referrals from consulting due to internal politics or just shear luck from previous recruiters leaving and handing over accounts).

While the fact remains that only a few people hold the bulk of the business, that's not what's holding the staffing division back as you are allowed to start doing full desk after about 1 year. These tenured recruiters are involved at the executive level (the 10+ year individual holds equity and is not a likeable individual who regularly talks down to other recruiters) and are guiding the company strategy to leverage their businesses while the remainder of the less tenured recruiters suffer a fate of pretty much never making $ past their draw or salary, hence why you feel like an admin as opposed to a sales/commissioned individual.

The next issue is the amount of recruiters who are now at the company. With roughly only 3 recruiters holding most of the business the remaining 25+ recruiters are all gravitating towards the same jobs and there is an enormous amount of redundancy. This defeats the whole purpose of having this many recruiters when they're all focusing on the same few jobs (recruiters work on any job they want which is great to an extent, but the redundancy occurs and it's also extremely easy to become overwhelmed).

Finally, the morale at staffing meetings is horribly depressing and trickles down to the each individual's recruiting efforts. Great leaders are supposed to help motivate their team, but instead you leave the meetings feeling defeated (even if you're doing well according to their standards). Perhaps that wouldn't be as big of an issue if the management and executive team could provide a good strategy on helping their recruiters succeed and generate more revenue (which is why most of us are here).

In sum, the biggest issue in staffing division here is that they don't have a strategy and that's why there is about a 5 year gap between an Associate Partner and a Managing or Senior Partner (who is actually making money and has leveraged the internal politics at the company). Management is good on a day to day basis in helping out with daily recruiting issues and questions, but they have no idea on how to lead a team, implement a strategy and motivate people to success.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you want to improve the team and retain good recruiters, the recruiters who have been leveraging the outdated system (the top few) should not be in executive strategy meetings as there is a seriously biased view of how things should be run. Not to mention when none of your Associate Partner recruiters are making their quota that should signal a blatant weakness in management.

Hire someone from the outside who has delivered and created top recruiting firms to give you an unbiased view of how things SHOULD be run to create more success for everyone involved. Your current "strategy" is failing you and something more drastic needs to be done. If you want a top recruiting firm get someone in there who knows how it's done.

Bottom line recruiting is a tough business, but the system should be in the bulk of the recruiter's favor, not against them.

Will never work for Prosum and highly discourage you to do so!

ProsThe HR team is fantastic and lead by a very charismatic and warmhearted executive. They do a good job organizing company-wide outings, especially when it comes to happy hours where a client company is invited.

On the client side Prosum has a reputation to be a cheaper agency, which allows you to get in the door of some large companies around Los Angeles.

Cons-Over 40% of your pay rate is Prosum's revenue;
-Team-members concerns are addressed only if it doesn't hurt Prosum's profitability - don't dare ask for a raise/ fair market compensation or skill improving training;
-They will not support you in any way requiring payment out of Prosum's "pocket"
-Promises to review employees career advancement frequently aren't kept;
-Personally met numerous Prosum employees wanting to switch agencies for a more professional treatment/ pay.

Good on occasion, but inconsistent performance from recruiters

ProsThey seem to get better job listings, on average, than other IT recruiters in the L.A. Metropolitan area.

ConsAs an applicant to a contract position, your experience will vary greatly depending on which recruiter you deal with. They might be highly motivated and informed, and communicate frequently. Or, as is the case with FAR too many IT recruiters; the last call you'll get from them is when you are submitted for a position. After that, no check-ins or status updates; you'll have to "chase" the person with e-mails and voice mails to get a status update.

Advice to Senior ManagementImplement standards for your recruiters; especially regarding communicating with job applicants.
