Pros
There are plenty of young people and will most likely build a good relationship with them as you work with them on projects. At the staff level everyone is friendly and willing to help each other out.
Cons
Staffing decisions are made on a whim by management and there is blatant favoritism. Many people were let go without getting a fair chance to prove themselves.
Advice to Senior Management
A more equitable way for management to staff their projects. Many people were not given the same opportunity as some of the other entry level employees which was their justification for them being let go.
Pros
A lot of intelligent people in the work place. Depends on which group you are in to foster growth in your career. It's up to you and how hard you work.
Cons
A lot of travel associated with the position. It is hard to reach management at times since you are never in the office at the same time.
Advice to Senior Management
More recognition towards certain groups. Raises should be based off team revenues and not office location revenues because it is not always fair.
Pros
-Small firm culture allows quick recognition of strong performance by Senior Management
-Strong opportunities for advancement
-Responsibility is given based on employee's skill level, not job title
-People are generally great to work with
Cons
-Compensation is no longer competitive with similar firms
-Work life balance expectations are absurd, especially at current compensation levels
-At times, simple job set ups can become unnecessarily bureaucratic
Advice to Senior Management
Clearly communicate expectations for improvement in compensation. If they are poor, then communicate that to your employees. Don't dodge the issue.
Pros
The people here are fun, young and intelligent
Teams I worked with were cohesive
Good training programs
Good mentoring program
Cons
SOX work was pervasive
No real push towards solutions based projects
No push to learn technical skills
Low retention rate leading to large age gap between management and consultants
Advice to Senior Management
Provide incentives to stay and keep the people that work. If solutions type projects are what you're aiming for, hire more technical people.
Pros
Great First job out of college.
Great work atmosphere.
Understanding towards work / personal balance.
Focused on developing employees and allowing them to grow as people.
Intense focus on training.
Cons
Heavy amount of travel in most positions.
Weren't always pushed to succeed due to position structure.
Company began a tendency towards firing consultants after a couple of years in order to hire new consultants fresh out of college at a lower pay.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to focus on the importance of the employees. Molding key employees is vital and more important to the success and efficiency of the company rather than hiring younger/lower salary employees.
Pros
Lower level staff very intelligent and wonderful to support.
Cons
Execs and upper management very egocentric and condescending. No feedback given. No advancement without degree unless you know someone. Min raises.
Advice to Senior Management
Without proper treatment of EAs, executives will never receive high level support; only bare minimum of effort.
Pros
Very relaxed culture - just get your job done and people stay off your back.
Cons
Limited opportunities to make Managing Director. Lower pay compared to Big 4
Advice to Senior Management
Figure out who your 'A' players are and pay them well.
Pros
-Good work life balance
-Awesome training programs called "The Challenge" for all staff levels
-Great company culture, which is set by senior management
Cons
-compensation is low compared to that of its competitors, namely big four consulting
-reimbursement packages for advanced degrees and certification is uncompetitive
Advice to Senior Management
continue to set the tone for good work life balance and company culture. Training programs are phenomenal compared to that of other companies. keep it up
Pros
Minimal overtime required (especially compared with the big 4)
Most employees are young and friendly
Good starting salary
Cons
Frequent travel required, with little notice given at times
Low pay raises and bonuses
Lots of SOX work
Advice to Senior Management
Encourage employees to stay at the company. Less turnover = lower costs
Pros
Great people
Decent pay
Great people, again
Cons
Sarbanes-Oxley
Limited response from management
Poor transition to solutions-based work
Advice to Senior Management
If you really want to be a "solutions" consulting firm, change your hiring practices.
