I have been working at Providence Health & Services full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The mission is what makes Providence stand apart from other healthcare companies. The staff are dedicated to their patients and the common commitment to core values and the quality of people who work here makes all the difference. Providence continues to serve our communities and those in need. We have been humble about what we do as an organization. The focus on innovation has brought a positive spotlight to the organization.

    Cons

The organization is growing faster than it's infrastructure. With 73,000+ employees the organization is complex and seems slow to respond. This can make some of the leaders feel distant and disconnected from day to day operations. I have the opportunity to work with some great leaders. The systems and tools that need to be in place to support an organization of this size are slow to be implemented.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maintain a focus on the mission and core values. Don't lose site of what makes Providence a great place to work.

I worked at Providence Health & Services part-time for less than a year

    Pros

They care about their employees. Their pay is excellent.

    Cons

They appear to hold very short term employment against a returning candidate

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If a person worked a short time in a PRN position and then took a full time permanent position elsewhere don't hold that against them. PRN does not guarantee over thirty hours a week and sometimes a person can feel uncertain about this.

I have been working at Providence Health & Services part-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

They have always paid fair salaries. And if you are smart and take advantage of opportunities to save your own money they will match a percentage of it. When I retired for the first time I walked away with almost half a million dollars.

    Cons

I have seen poor managers just moved around, not outright fired. It could be said that is good to give a person a second chance, But when it is the third and fourth time it is seen then these people need to be encouraged to see opportunities to work else where.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Now a days it is virtuously impossible to get into a management position without a post graduate degree. What happened to spotting a remarkable younger person and grooming them to come up the ranks. You might have found the hardest & smartest working person on your team that way.

I have been working at Providence Health & Services full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great Benefits, competitive pay, room for advancement.

    Cons

Staffing shortages with a high rate of turnover for lower level employees requiring a lot of agency workers who are do not care about the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire extra employees for call or part-time to keep agency out and morale up among Providence employees. It is difficult to take advantage of PTO if there is no coverage. Caregiver burnout could be prevented if ongterm staff was allowed to take their PTO
