I worked at Prudent Publishing as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Good place to work if you are a full-time employee.

    Cons

Most employees are part-time for many years. Regular staff has to continually re-train and oversee new hires. The high volume of part-time and seasonal workers is counter-productive over the long term.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Software needs to be upgraded.

I worked at Prudent Publishing as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Relaxed atmosphere, friendly coworkers, very encouraging trainers and supervisors, overtime available during busy season.

    Cons

Seasonals don't work enough weeks to qualify for full unemployment
Seasonals don't know approximate dates they'll be called back.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring experienced seasonals back earlier to allow them to qualify for unemployment benefits

I have been working at Prudent Publishing full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Other employees are easy to work with,. The Day goes fast. Close to where I live. Lots of overtime from Sept to December.

    Cons

No raises for most employees in years. Very little appreciation of the time I give up with my family during those 11 hour/7 day weeks during the Holidays. No appreciation of the good job that I (and most of my co-workers) do to maintain smooth operation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maybe its time to remind yourselves that you depend on PEOPLE , NOT MACHINES to keep your business going. It wouldn't hurt to sponsor some Management workshops to train your managers on the proper way to speak to people.

I worked at Prudent Publishing full-time

    Pros

There are some truly great salt of the earth people who work here and during my time I made many friendships that continue to this day.

    Cons

Prudent Publishing is riddled with Middle Managers notorious for taking credit for ideas and innovations thought up by those under their supervision. They have a seasonal work force which they employ just enough weeks so that these folks cannot claim unemployment. They are known for accepting underskilled employees and "training" them into roles they have no business working in with often mixed resilts but that's a win for Prudent because they have saved money. There is a culture here that encourages and rewards snitching and gossip and I found it truly distasteful.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your employees and seasonal workforce what they are worth....without them you are NOTHING. Let your seasonal workforce be employed for 20+ weeks so they can at the very least claim unemployment.

    Pros

This is a small company with a big heart. They pride themselves in a Family Friendly atmosphere. It has a relaxed Work hard and play hard attitude.

    Cons

Old school mentality, could use new modern ideas to carry them to the next level.

    I worked at Prudent Publishing

    Pros

Employee morale is great due to in-house contests, promotions, etc.

    Cons

They knew exactly what they were doing when we were let go after 16 weeks so couldn't collect Unemployment! Everyone I've told this to could not believe their lack of compassion for those who worked long & hard during this time period.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

At least have the decency to keep seasonals employed for 20 weeks!
