  1. Eternally grateful for the hardship

I worked at Public Service Division Singapore

    Pros

Good training ground. If you've been through Hell (i.e. psd), your next company would be Heaven. Can become an investigator in future because you would have good eye power. you would be able to spot mistakes no matter how minor it is. Example: spacing between sentences.

    Cons

Office politics the worst in both public and private sectors. Tonnes of scholars sitting in their Ivory towers with zero common sense. Quite a surprise that they are still breathing and walking around. Coming up with policy after policy or reviewing policies constantly but with zero results in reality. Not a place to stay long, will be jaded very fast.

    Advice to Management

Nil. That's the system. Nothing can be changed.

I worked at Public Service Division Singapore

    Pros

    Ample training opportunities
Job rotation internally and to other ministries
Good intentions to improve civil service HR policies and processes and set the correct tone for pte sector

    Cons

Great place for dreamers; A lot of fluff work
Excellent if you like to showcase yourself at meetings all the time
Tries to do too many things - lack of focus and unspoken expectations for staff to be able to do everything
Middle mgt not devloped in people management skills
Transient place to work. Not for long haul

    Pros

The people are very friendly, and location is pretty good as well. Enriching experience within the public sector, and you get to interact with other agencies quite a bit as well.

    Cons

Not very much to say here other than the fact that a lot of the initiatives and projects usually don't yield short term results, but that is pretty standard across most public sector policy-focussed agencies.

    Pros

Great exposure to senior management activities
Friendly working environment, opportunities to learn
    Promotion of work-life balance
Staff welfare - great milo/coffee machine!
Having the opportunity to do a presentation about your internship experience to the Deputy Secretary at the end of your internship

    Cons

Can't say much because I was only there for 2 months as an intern, but I enjoyed myself immensely!

    Pros

People are nice. There are pro-family initiatives. Activities/events happening on a frequent basis to make the workplace more fun. Open working environment, encourages collaborations between departments

    Cons

Long meetings. Need to have good writing skills. Quite a bit of ding-donging --> work gets dragged on. It may be okay for someone who wants to have a stable working environment. But for someone who wants to move up the ladder, it is not a suitable place.

    Advice to Management

    Make meetings fast and to-the-point

    Pros

It's a great place to be at, with pro-worker/family initiatives and nice working environment.

    Cons

The work is typical of the civil service, and career progression might be very slow. Nevertheless, it's a great place with you're ok with that.

    Cons

    Unnecessary long meetings
Takes too long to come to a decision
The ability to get things done is not appreciated
The ability to speak up on any subject at meetings to speak fluff is.
They are not respected by the ministries they serve
