I have been working at Public Storage full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

We are a relatively small team for such a large company, which can make it easier to make a meaningful difference. You do still have to be willing to be creative and to work a bit to stand out. Public Storage also has a family feel at team birthday parties and holiday events. Even the CEO and other execs attend when they are in town. Our smaller, more efficient team also makes for a stronger profit margin and more stable employer, which means a lot to me.

    Cons

Though I appreciate our structure and think it's efficient overall, sometimes having fewer peers can have drawbacks.

I have been working at Public Storage for more than a year

    Pros

Steady company that will keep you underemployed for as long as you can handle no growth opportunities.

    Cons

This company epitomizes corporate greed. Don't be fooled from corporate to field management there is little to no concern for employees. Top management seems to receive large increases and bonuses while the CEO manages to take every benefit possible from lower and middle level employees. The HR department is far too small and to support the number of employees in the company and are relatively silent unless to support taking any incentives away. Your success here has nothing to do with skill or ability, no corporate reviews were delivered last year so expect little as a rule.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop a compensation department, deliver reviews and offer your employees a reason to have a vested interest in delivering results. You get what you pay for. Pathetic to see a successful company operate like they are closing tomorrow and employees are all dispensable. Try caring for corporate employees half as much as you care for yourselves.

I have been working at Public Storage full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Public Storage is a very successful company and with that comes a certain amount of job security. Their business model is one of the strongest I've ever seen and they continue to plan on extensive growth every year. With this, they are very supportive and understanding of work life balance.

    Cons

I don't have any Cons at this time. This company is a perfect fit for me.

    Pros

Company is Off the 5 freeway, easy to get to.

    Cons

Company is driven like small business. Salaries for employees is super low and raises are a joke. Senior management are in positions without previous manager experience... Aren't leaders. Only management gets richer with big raises and bonuses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Share the wealth with your employees. Hire management that has the experience to run a department.

CEO who only thinks about bottom line

    Pros

Very financially stable company whose stock is doing well. Leader in the self-service storage market and is rapidly expanding operations. Employees are very smart and hard working.

    Cons

CEO only thinks of the bottom line to the detriment of Public Storage's employees and customers. For instance, starting 2014, corporate employees' 10 days of sick time was effectively eliminated and, for some employees, their vacation time reduced. We now have a reduced pool of "paid time off" so if you take a sick day, you take what was previously your vacation time. Raises are rarely and minimally granted, even though the company is doing very well.
CEO's mantra for the customer is "no pay, no stay" putting the field in a very difficult position when dealing with their customers. The field has very little flexibility to work with customers, which makes it hard for them to deliver any real customer service. Though the CEO surrounds himself with some extremely smart senior management, he doesn't listen to them and will make decisions against their advice. His management style is to impose fear and intimidate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

CEO needs to listen to his senior management and allow them to do their job and treat the company's employees better.

    Pros

The best reason to work there is all in all the people (customers & coworkers)

    Cons

They don't give respect and reconition where its due. They disregard length of employment as having any value. They micro manage. Bonus's have plunged and they have found the best way with bonus structure to ensure that the least ammount of people receive it. There are no raises EVER!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Throw down some scraps out of executives bonus's so that all are able to make a living are happy and turnover is If your not going to value length of employment at least have raises so we have a reason to stay.

    Pros

    average pay, okay working hours

    Cons

    Very Cheap, Very Stingy!!!
Don't expect any employee perks or anything good, no annual raises or bonuses.
Work like a slave until you drop.
Surrounded by a bunch of arrogant losers who think they are so great working for PS, but in reality they are just blinded by their pride.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't overlook talent and give support to staff when needed.
Don't be so frugal and stingy to your employees, they are your assets.

    Pros

You can make a decent paycheck and have flexible hours. This is a great job for college students of anyone looking to start in sales.

    Cons

Your time is extremely micromanaged because of call forecasting. Some management plays favorites. Pay structure changed often, one day you were making $25/ hr and the next you could make $12.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You're core group of managers are great, sales team leaders were hit and miss.

    Pros

Compensation. There is no other reason. Those who remain give a pound of flesh to remain and are compensated for it.

    Cons

At the corporate level, employees have to subvert themselves to the culture and remain vigilant in being on guard from one another. VERY political without cause. Not a place for development personally, professionally, or otherwise. You endure this place versus being enhanced by it. If you take a position there, then remain low profile at all times. Observe the behavior of your peers and try to understand how and why they have become as such. Model them as long as you have to while you search for a better place. Better place DO exist.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Model your founder in culture and not the executive management.

    Pros

The work environment originally had an entreprenurial spirit, that changed as time moved on. The field operations was confident and provided feedback to provide you with ways to be successful with your job and its support for the field.

    Cons

The home office was not connected to the field in many ways, this alienated the field and did not make it a collaborative environment. Many decisions were made that were not practical for good operations and execution.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is a tremendous need to better communicate and create a more cohesive environment.
Sr. Management needs more hands on with the field.
