Pros
Teamwork, excellent benefits, free stock, inventory bonuses, family feel.
Cons
Retail scheduling, very difficult to plan things ahead of time.
Advice to Senior Management
It would be nice if we could have schedules 2 or 3 weeks in advance.
Pros
Publix is very flexible with it's employees schedules. Managers were encouraging and supportive of those employees that were going to school while holding their position. Publix offers great benefits and opportunity for those who are willing to work hard for it.
Cons
The only bad thing I have to say about the company is that some of the more hard working employees were taken advantage that cause frustration for those involved but it rarely happened for it to become a big issue.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the great work! Happy employees are motivated and productive employees and you have figured that out!
Pros
Flexible hours, okay starting pay for a cashier, management was very accessible, good advancement opportunities, cross training opportunities, tuition reimbursement after 6 months.
Cons
No great perks as a part-timer, good advancement opportunities provided by the company but the management I worked with was not good at implementing it.
Advice to Senior Management
District and regional managers need to get to know the cashiers and stock personnel better instead of just speaking with upper management. Would get better feedback and a better feel of how protocal is being followed.
Pros
Publix has benefits for part time as well as full time, great customers, and co workers. requesting time off is never a problem. Management is always willing to work with you
Cons
hours are terrible you might work early one day and late the next or for part time you could be scheduled 15 hours one week and 30 the next no consistency. They do not give coffee breaks. If you are lucky enough to get a coffee break they will call you right back after 2 minutes if there is a line. Sometimes even for part time you will get scheduled 10 hour with only 1 hour lunch and no coffee breaks makes a real long day in between.
Advice to Senior Management
Please give all employees at least a 10 minute break after 2 or three hours. If it is too busy to close register then have someone from the floor relieve them. It is difficult to keep smiling when you have to work 4 or 5 straight hours with no break at all. Many times when we get called back to open no one is in line and it is like putting out a fire that never existed.
Pros
-Benefits even for part-timers, if you have enough hours
-Advancement opportunity
-Co-workers generally adhere to professional standards more than at other companies
-Open-door policy for speaking with managers
Cons
-Corporate mentality common to retail: "You must be available to us for scheduling 24/7, even though we may only give you a few hours a week, and in return we will have no regard for your needs as a human being or for how our scheduling policies affect you."
-Seemingly no written policy for advancing to full-time
-Divergent policies among managers, or even the same manager on different day or depending on who is asking
-Seniority counts for, apparently, nothing whatsoever
Advice to Senior Management
Realize that your employees are human beings and that your schedule has a huge effect on their lives. A well-rested employee (one who has a consistent enough schedule to have a regular sleeping pattern) will be visibly happier to come to work, perform better and faster, make fewer costly mistakes leading to shrink or customer dissatisfaction, and be healthier, putting less strain on company health insurance. Also, if a person's schedule is somewhat regular, they will have to ask off work for special occasions and appointments less often, since they will have a good idea in advance what they will probably be working, and they can schedule such things on days they will probably be off work. Instead, company policy seems to be exactly the opposite, as schedules are completely mixed-up and inconsistent as if on purpose. Perhaps the company fears dealing with complaints from people who begin to feel entitled to certain shifts. But that sounds like a pretty stupid reason to the people who have to live by these schedules that so arbitrarily insist on having complete claim on their time.
Have a written policy for moving to full-time, or publish it if there is one. Otherwise, it's too easy to base it on favoritism.
Also, the "Associate Voice Survey" is a joke. There is not even a space for comments. It's only like a scantron with questions like "How much do you think such-and-such about your store? Choose from 1-5, with 5 being Strongly Agree and 1 being Strongly Disagree." There is no chance to say why you think any of this, which is why instead of telling the company directly, I now have to publish on the internet for everyone to see.

Pros
great long term opportunities
pay better than others in the industry
benefits if you qualify are adequate

promote from within
Cons

tough to get rid of those that don't fit the Publix culture
lack of training for managers tends to cause problems
performance evaluations are useless for those that do their job well as feedback between them is often hard to come by unless you make a mistake.
Advice to Senior Management
better train your managers
improve the process for removing unfit associates
make performance evaluations matter and provide FEEDBACK more than just during performance evaluations. Don't always focus on the negative!
Pros

Cons
There was no communication about careers with corporate. one day you will walk in the break room and you find out you have a new manager.
Advice to Senior Management
Please communicate with us about corporate jobs or how we can have a career with Publix. Also, dont pick favorites with the employees.
