Pros
Good reasons is its a secure job if your always good with everyone including Mngrs. And bonus are nice and other small perks.
Cons
No discounts to employee. Company expect you to live and breathe Publix. Everyone mingles and mixes which ends up in personal relationships and lots of drama! And the company approves it which is very unprofessional.
Advice to Senior Management
If you desire the respect of workers then do the work of a Mngr instead of sleeping on the job or worst making the workers do it for you!! and pitch in and help out the employee's also. Always recognize their efforts and praise them. Dont discriminate as many do here at this company. Keep your personal life home or the whole company will know. People talk very fast, rumors spread like wild fire. If you Value your personal life and family then Publix is not the company for you. If work comes first and family second then this is the Company for you. Apply right away!! Salary is great for Mngrs!!!
Pros
The culture is the best thing about Publix. They give you opportunities to grow in the company. The benefits are great!
Cons
The worst part about working at Publix was that I was a cashier. Cashier's have to stand up all day. But I would rather be a casher in an environment like Publix that at any other store.
Pros
flexible hours, positive atmosphere, great place to work
Cons
long hours, pain standing for long amounts of time
Pros
Teamwork, excellent benefits, free stock, inventory bonuses, family feel.
Cons
Retail scheduling, very difficult to plan things ahead of time.
Advice to Senior Management
It would be nice if we could have schedules 2 or 3 weeks in advance.
Pros
state of the art training, easy to get along with everyone,clean,benefits.pay,flexibility.
Cons
some favoritism shown towards employees,
Advice to Senior Management
treat everyone fairly, advance employees more often.
Pros
Publix is very flexible with it's employees schedules. Managers were encouraging and supportive of those employees that were going to school while holding their position. Publix offers great benefits and opportunity for those who are willing to work hard for it.
Cons
The only bad thing I have to say about the company is that some of the more hard working employees were taken advantage that cause frustration for those involved but it rarely happened for it to become a big issue.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the great work! Happy employees are motivated and productive employees and you have figured that out!
Pros
Other people might say the best reason to work for publix is the pay and benefits but for me it the feeling that I belong to something great and can help make it better by my actions. It's also a good feeling to help a customer plan a meal and know that they are going home satisfied!
Cons
As it is with any job stress is a factor but it will not effect you if you can find that happy medium and balance your work and home life, if you don't have that you will never be happy at either!
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the great work! I've still got 35 or more years for publix left in me and can only dream of the places our company will go between now and then!
Pros
Friendly coworkers, great place to work. and if you do your job correctly and your good at it, its very easy to move up in the publix work place!
Cons
The only down side of working a publix is the pay, I dont know if others have had this problem, but I have worked with my store for a year now, got employe of the month and even got 2 promotions and I still make less then then new lowest level workers!
Advice to Senior Management
The only thing i can say is to make the pay more fair to all workers, especially ones that go above and beyond!
Pros
Communication with public
Clean working conditions
Cons
Strange schedules
Poor communication with management
Upper management only cares about bottom line not employees
Management ridicule in public
Low pay for duties performed
Open door communication policy between Manager and employees poor
You never know when you will be working from week to week or what duties you will be performing.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat employees as an asset not just another employee. Give consideration to schedules and family time.
Pros
benefits - but only available after 1 year of in indentured servitude. you have to put up with a lot to make it. I understand, the benefits are great and not just anyone should be entitled to them.
Cons
It depends on your immediate supervisor. I received little to no training other than to just do it then get harshly corrected when you do it wrong. Pay is pathetic and you don't get raises until 6 months. Expect your first job review - regardless of your performance- to be weak. Customers, knowing company policy of "never say no", for the most part, act like spoiled brats and expect you to fulfill there every request no matter how outrageous or petty. Don't expect a lot of "pleases" and "thank yous" either. Rough job even when you try and rise above it all because the customers basically treat you like crap.
Advice to Senior Management
My department manager is there because he/she put in the time and passed a test - aren't real motivational and aren't very good at creating a cohesive team of people willing to work together. Lots of conflict and animosity within department. Look for leadership ability, and/or train it. "X" years of service and the ability to study a book does not a leader make.
