Pros
Nice neighborhood and mostly friendly customers -although they are now spoiled by years of ass-kissing by the manager.
Cons
For such repetitive work, the equipment sucks. It is outdated and the constantly breaks and NEVER, EVER is a new CPU replaced or anything else. OASIS scheduling will be the downfall of good customer service and taking employee morale down with it. The pay stinks and the bonuses are not divided very equitably even though we all do the same amount of work. Customer service folks think that cashiers are very beneath them and you have to beg for a ten minute break. Publix is not much fun to work at as it is a stuffy environment and very uncreative in many, many ways....
Advice to Senior Management
Loosen up - all were doing is selling groceries which everyone wants and quit worrying about the accountants who are running the company since Mr. George died. He would be appalled by the treatment of employees today.
Pros
Most of the associates that are work with are lovely people. The work is very hard, but teamwork is definitely a benefit.
Cons
Having to work nights because I am full-time stinks. Having to pay so much for health insurance. Having to pamper the customers when they take advantage of our customer service.
Advice to Senior Management
PUblix is a multi million dollar business. The customers have always come first, when will the associates come first. Give bigger raises to those that are deserve it
Pros
Publix promotes from within and this is very good for people who would rather work their way up than go to school. They have good full time benefits.
Cons
Managers change stores very frequently so as soon as you get comfortable with one they send a new one and you have to adjust again.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep managers where they are for longer than a year. Although it is good for the manager to learn from different environments it is hard for other associates to handle a new manager every year.
Pros
stability and benifits are second to any retail industry. company has a strong and stable history with much room for advancement if you want it.
Cons
hardly any personal life, and good workers some times get taken advantage of to make up for the sorry ones.
Advice to Senior Management
advice to senior management is promote the right people to make operations run smoothly. treat people at all times how you want to be treated.
Pros
You get to meet and help customers. There is plenty of room for advancement within the company. You get great benefits and perks.
Cons
Many of the jobs require you be on your feet all day.
Advice to Senior Management
They are doing a great job on leading Publix to being the number one grocery store, especially as far as customer service goes.
Pros
Great benefits, pay better than competitors, friendly co-workers, always something to do.
Cons
Managers can make or break the worplace. I've had awesome managers and also not-so-awesome ones. I worked at Publix for 7 years in 3 different stores, the last one being the worst because of management. It's not easy getting time off around holidays, but it's not that hard any time else.
Advice to Senior Management
Remember where you came from!
Pros
Pays very well compared to other grocery stores
Most work is pretty easy
Good place to make a career out of if that is what you want
Good benefits
A lot of staff so workers are rarely overwhelmed even on holidays
Cons
A lot of cleaning, namely of public bathrooms which can include vomit/feces-not fun.
Meetings are usually pointless and repetitive
Pros
* Perfect student job because they are very flexible with work schedules
* Pay is good for what it is
* if you stay long enough (over a year) you will get the quartely bonuses given to all associates(higher selling stores have higher bonuses)
* Stock options given to all associates who stay long enough (again over one year)
Cons
*ALOT of work.... its not rocket science but there are no breaks while youre on the clock
* Odd hours (i closed the store every day i worked 3pm - 12am.... rarely got to leave before 12)
* ^ This as because the stock clerk have to fix or level all the aisles before getting to leave at night
* I thought of it as being the managers hands in a sense because they cant be everywhere all the time to deal with the store so they hire us to do the tedious things (I.E. filling shelves, unloading trucks, making bales and leveling)
* Needs to increase pay raise rate for higher performers instead of giving $0.5 - $0.25 give $1.00 or more to the people who are there a long time and perform well
Advice to Senior Management
Best advice i can give to management would be to take care of high performers (I.E. pay) and be more motivational. Dont use people as much as you can in there 35 or 40 hr windows of the week and then immediately cut them off when they reach the 35 or 40 hr maximum
Pros
Customers are very nice an respectful, clean store, nice landscaping, nice locations
Cons
managers belittle and humiliate you , managers think they are some kind of god, punishment for human mistakes, you get downgraded to a bagger for 90 days so the entire store can laugh at you.
Advice to Senior Management
You are not gods. You are selling groceries. Remember where you came from. Talk to associates with respect and stop forcing everyone to participate into silly fundraisers. Get rid of the silly Customer Service Team Leader/Babysitter. Don't show so much favoritism to certain associates, it really is obvious.
Pros
time off, flexible schedule, bonuses, stock, employee discount plans
Cons
the schedule varies weekly, you never know how many hours you are going to get the next week, it flucuates greatly at times.
