Pros
Nice Stock Plan...year ending bonuses..great pay..vacation time..nice people working with you and usually stress free..Benefits
Cons
Promotions require you to be un-qualified and a favorite of your immediate mgrs.Too many untrained mgrs running these stores
Advice to Senior Management
You need to change the promotion procedures. Base promotions on how qualified the individual is not based on mgr. favoritism.
Pros
Great place to work for flexible hours
The customer is always right
Management listens to it's employees
Decent pay for part time work
Cons
Early morning truck deliveries can be bad.
Long hours
Back breaking physical work
On your feet all day
Hot outside when getting carts
Advice to Senior Management
Don't participate in affirmative action
Seek to promote college grads who have worked there throughout college
Promote those who are good, not just because of politics
Pros
Flexible hours, okay starting pay for a cashier, management was very accessible, good advancement opportunities, cross training opportunities, tuition reimbursement after 6 months.
Cons
No great perks as a part-timer, good advancement opportunities provided by the company but the management I worked with was not good at implementing it.
Advice to Senior Management
District and regional managers need to get to know the cashiers and stock personnel better instead of just speaking with upper management. Would get better feedback and a better feel of how protocal is being followed.
Pros
pay (for meat deaprtment, managers, and people who have been there FOREVER)
benifits (for full time). the other associates are cool and easy to get along with.
managers (at my store anyway) arn't too bad and are pretty cool and fair.
Cons
the pay sucks for everyone else not listed above. raises are crap (25 cents per 6 monthes with a great evaluation) thats 2 years with almost perfect evaluations to go up $1 in pay. evaluations can only go down. way to over worked and underpaied, taking carts full of groceries out to people's cars for them (and 11 out of 10 times not gettign tipped for it), walking all over the lot collecting carts in the florida heat, cleaning the nasty bathrooms, and whatever else that requires you to be on your feet for 10+ hours a shift. no extra dollar on sunday unless you have been there from 09 or before. this past month (and still continuing) i have been getting a 12-15 hour shift per week. longer then a manager with WAY LESS pay then one. NO discounts. always get asked to stay and/or get called in and if you say no your hours get cut.alot of the customers are ignorant and rude and show you no respect (not all but most of the customers). sometimes you go 5-6 hours without a break
im sure the list goes on but i just got off an 8am-10:15pm shift and am to tired to think of anymore. over all its good if you desperatly need a job
Advice to Senior Management
Advice to Ed Crenshaw: listen to the people that do the work that makes publix what it is. the people that arn't behind a corprate desk making 6 figures a year, but the people standing cashiering and bagging and taking groceries out and scrubbing toilets and floors for 7.50 and hour.
Pros
Great benefits, good discounts and amazing stock options.
Nice pay.
Very friendly environment.
Cons
The customers.
Corporate's little knack of adding "new ideas" to your job for their benefit.
Dynamic selling.
Pros
Publix has benefits for part time as well as full time, great customers, and co workers. requesting time off is never a problem. Management is always willing to work with you
Cons
hours are terrible you might work early one day and late the next or for part time you could be scheduled 15 hours one week and 30 the next no consistency. They do not give coffee breaks. If you are lucky enough to get a coffee break they will call you right back after 2 minutes if there is a line. Sometimes even for part time you will get scheduled 10 hour with only 1 hour lunch and no coffee breaks makes a real long day in between.
Advice to Senior Management
Please give all employees at least a 10 minute break after 2 or three hours. If it is too busy to close register then have someone from the floor relieve them. It is difficult to keep smiling when you have to work 4 or 5 straight hours with no break at all. Many times when we get called back to open no one is in line and it is like putting out a fire that never existed.
Pros
Publix has great benefits if you're interested in working in the company long term, If you are somewhat dissatisfied with your job the salary is below other companies.
Cons
There are too many politics and not everyone is treated fairly. Some are hard workers while others take advantage of those that actually work,
Advice to Senior Management
Promotions should be more available and more help should be alloted to departments with greater need as opposed to ones that have a surplus of employees,
Pros
Friendly associates and Bosses. Very clean. Nice customers. Work was not hard.
Cons
Sometimes they make you work only 3 hours. I wanted to work more than 20hrs/week but they didn't allow me to.
Advice to Senior Management
Consider allowing some employees to work more hours per week.
Pros
I worked during the summer which was great. I had great pay and also had great hours. They were very flexiable
Cons
The customers tend to talk down to you. However, it was a family type environment so it made up for the customers.
Advice to Senior Management
I loved it there.
Pros
Benefits are very good with Publix. Stocks, both given and employee purchased. Salaries for supervisors and management are also very good. Friendly employees. Publix hires minors and people with disabilities more than any other company I know of.
Cons
Scheduling is horrific! Many times you will be asked to close the store one night, then open again the next morning, getting little or no sleep. If you are part time, you may limit your availability, but, you will only get a few hours a week. If you offer Publix an open availability, they will abuse your time beyond belief. Inconsistent scheduling. You'll rarely have the same schedule twice. And finally with the implementation of Publix new system, your old job description is tossed out. Cashiers are no longer just cashiers. Now we have to bag, clean, mop, sweep the parking lot, empty garbage, and carry groceries to customer's cars and load them. None of these tasks were ever expected from cashiers before. Publix motto: Increase the workload, but keep the same salary.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your people. Not the ones making $100,000 per year. Your real people, the little guys. We are the ones actually growing your business. Why are our voices ignored?
