Pros
It really is like joining a family when you work here. I've gotten very attached to my coworkers as well as my managers, and they have all treated me with respect. My managers have been very understand with personal and medical emergencies, and I was able to be promoted very quickly. It is generally a very easy job, and it is a great company as a whole.
Cons
Once you make it to customer service staff, it is very hard to get promoted any further unless you have been there for years and years. It is impossible to get full time unless you have been there for years as well, at least in my smaller-sized store. I am very dissatisfied with pay; baggers and cashiers who have been working there for less time are making more money than me, and I only receive 15 cent raises.
Pros
A very friendly and clean workplace. Customers are usually nice and friendly as well. The company stock is pretty good.
Cons
Store hours are harsh sometimes.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop being so hard on the managers.
Pros
Very easy atmosphere to work in.
Cons
Pay scale and advancement opportunities
Pros
Good work environment with good people for the most part. Pay is fair and raises are pretty easy to get after each review. Highly recommend this as a place to look into for a young person looking for a first job.
Cons
Thought this job would just be bagging groceries and bringing in shopping carts, but there was a lot of cleaning of public bathrooms and other gross messes that I was not expecting. Not the end of the world, but not enjoyable.
Pros
Publix offered great hours and benefits for students looking to get into the workforce without sacrificing their education. I would highly recommend working there.
Cons
I feel management did not promote college and wanted some of the employees to continue to work and forgo college alltogether.
Pros
The pay for managment used to be the best in the industry.. afte the bonus cut 5 years ago pay has dropped but it is still good.
Cons
benefits are down and equal to burger king, the average manager divides their pay by actual houors work will figure that they only make 14hr. profit sharing has reduced every year and the esop program stolen. no respect for associates. if you need two days off or need to see your family then prepared to pay the price. managment is lazy and expects all the under trained associates to get it. managers lie about training to make their numbers looks good. company doesnt provide time to train in productivty goals. associates are only allowed a three percent raise no matter what they do....... their is no exceptions.. company always sends out memos that too many associates are given to high ratings and will expect better raises. benefits package gets cut and the company tells about some other great thing to take the focus off it. Managers are allowed to harass associates about illnes. Associates are allowed to be blackballed after they try ti stand up for themselves. company engages in inter office campaigns to sell how much you love us to ourselves..
Advice to Senior Management
start doing mr. george did and show your associates they are really the reason publix is great.
Pros
Its a good place to work, the workplace is set up so that it is easy to do your job.
Cons
It gets boring after a while.
Advice to Senior Management
Let people rotate between jobs.
Pros
Great benefits package, great 401K options. I'm sorry to be taking so long but I'm still trying to think of some more. Once you get to management the pay is alot better and you have more control over your requests for time off.
Cons
Once in management, the hours are riduculously long and not necessary. Our Divisional Manager requires that all management work 1 closing and 1 shift until 8:00pm. This is totally unnecessary since the 8:00pm shift requires that a meat cutter also has to close. There are alot of other things that managers should be doing other than babysitting a meatcutter until 8:00pm. The new paperwork and other issues (Do, remember that they keep adding more and more to managers and yet taking nothing away.) that need to be taken care of need to be done during daytime hours. They put more and more on us and give us less and less help to get it done.
Advice to Senior Management
Spend a whole day in the meat department, or any other department, for that matter. And actually do what you expect us to get done with the minimal help that you give us. Maybe then you will realize that we are not magical and can't just toss our wand and everything will be how you want. It takes time and experience to know what needs to be done and when. What is important to you, (setting up a front 4x4 while the meat case is almost empty is not 1st on our list) our priority is to get product out there for customers, not trying to impress the DM, who 99% of the time is never seen at opening time.
Pros
The store I'm at has good people to work with very down to earth stock crew and management all requested days off were given
Cons
No training what so ever for people who have advanced. Management is not that great at all. Spend lots of time fixing mistakes. Raises come in small amounts
Advice to Senior Management
Rethink it all start teaching people how to do there job don't just stand back and watch so many mistakes happen and consistency is the key stop changing things every 5 mins get everyone on the same page
Pros
For the most part the other associates you will be working with are very friendly. It is easy to find people you will get a long with.
Cons
If you enjoy pulling 9 hour shifts and then being expected to stay another 2+ hours after work to finish the job due to poor time management this is the place for you!
Advice to Senior Management
Hire people who can do the job as you expect. If you hire a small person who has to climb up and down ladders all day to stock items on the shelf and lug around huge floats don't complain when they can't operate as fast as everyone else.
