    Pros

The people are very kind, the managers try to accommodate you the best they can for your needs. They are very flexible with the schedule.

    Cons

I go to school too and the late hours sometimes bother me. There are not many benefits for a part timer employee or you can start getting them too late in you time working there. You have to stand for long periods, I'm starting to feel it in my knee.

    Advice to Management

cashiers should get seats, after all, standing in just one place for long periods will eventually have repercussions to health, whether the employee is young or old.

  3. Since I started working for Publix it definitely has molded me to be a hard worker.

    Pros

I was trained to be organized and to think of others. By working hard not only do you take care of yourselves, but your other associates and customers.

    Cons

There are people who are lazy and if you are a hard worker it can definitely leave you feeling stressed. Publix maybe just a supermarket and may not require a college degree, but there is a lot of work to run a successful store.

    Advice to Management

Work hard for your associates. Do not think that just because your a manager doesn't mean you can slack off and see your people work. Be strong leader, not a demanding boss.

    Pros

Vacation, pay, promotion, customers, co-workers are friendly, etc.

    Cons

Don't really have any cons surprisingly.

    Advice to Management

Management is very helpful and engaging with the employees to help keep them happy. Most bring a very positive attitude to the stores they work in.

  9. Helpful (2)

Publix is a great place to start a career, but is more helpful when your career is started at an early age.

    Pros

Publix offers a great working experience in many different areas, which can really help their Associates grow in their respective careers (in or out of Publix). After a certain period of employment, performance reviews are given which usually are accompanied by a small raise. Publix promotes from within, so there is no need to worry about some inexperienced outsider coming in to take an open management position. Publix is also Employee owned, which means only Publix employees (after a certain period of time) can purchase stock in the company. Company benefits are offered (after a certain period of employment) no matter whether you are part-time or full-time.

    Cons

Random scheduling makes having a life outside of work extremely difficult. Each store is run differently, so employee guidelines/rules vary depending on the Store Manager. Promotions into management positions rarely result in the promoted Associate staying at the store they were working at. Raises are usually minimal and all positions have a wage ceiling. Unless you have significant previous relevant work experience, all Associates start out at part-time with no set time to become a full-time employee.

    Advice to Management

I really have no useful advice for Upper Management, as I have only been employed for a few months. All of my pros and cons are specific to one store, so any advice I would be able to offer would most likely pertain to just that store.

  10. it's a better experience than i initially thought i'd get. what started as a job can easily grow into a career.

    Pros

if you work at a good location you'll get a legitimate publix experience. your coworkers truly start to feel like family. management is fair but will always push you to do better.

    Cons

if you work at a bad location it can feel kinda corporate. more will be expected of you than many different stores. you have to be willing to work.

    Advice to Management

don't lose that "like family" feeling with your associates no matter their job tittle. that sort of compassion transfers to the customers.
