I have been working at Publix full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

They have a flexible work schedule and an easy system of moving up as long as you are willing to work hard. They have a great company culture and they really do try to focus on family and their employees.

    Cons

Early mornings and late nights tend to be rough when you have a family. There are a lot of internal politics as there are with most jobs. The training plans could be more consistent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Focus on training more.

I worked at Publix full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Wonderful benefits for employees. You literally own a piece of the company because they give you shares of stock. Great people! Can easily move up in the company.

    Cons

Customer is always right and unfortunately you will follow rules the company provides however if the customer insists on having a manager come they override and give them what they want. Ends up making you feel stupid.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be so quick to give in to customer complaints, maybe lying thieving customers are worth losing over making your employees look stupid.

I have been working at Publix part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Extremely customer oriented, even to the point of bending a few rules to make things right. Managers are very, VERY nice (very likable and actually care about you). Easy to move up if you take initiative. Moving around to different departments or to another location is just a matter of one simple form. Coworkers are very friendly. This was/is my first job and what they teach you can last a lifetime.

    Cons

Just one major complaint. The scheduling happens every week so you really cant plan things too far in advance, whereas most companies will schedule 2 weeks to a month in advance. The hours (for me at least) vary wildly, one week I may get 20 hours and the next just 9.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Do longer scheduling periods .

I have been working at Publix full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

THERE ARENT MANY PROS TO WORKING HERE ANYMORE

    Cons

Company has gone down hill drastically over the past year ... Publix used to care for there employees, but now it all them. I have seen people get hurt at work and they were told to pretty much suck it up because they weren't going to pay workers comp. Employee wound up losing home and family. myself as well as a few other employees tried to help them out as much as possible, but we could only do so much.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

YOU ARE NOT BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE THAT WORKS THERE. DONT FORGET WHERE YOU CAME FROM

I worked at Publix full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Once breaking the very tricky ceiling of 'full-timer' status, Publix offers a guaranteed forty hour week, and the employee stock ownership can accrue nicely with time served.

    Cons

One can linger in the uber-tenuous 'part-timer' zone for a long time. Full-timer status brings an expectation of 100% schedule flexibility that's tough on 2-parent-income families. The conservative, old-boy culture combines with a high degree of difficulty in switching stores where promotion to mgmt bumps up against clique-ish silliness. You can get stuck well below yr potential at Publix.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I left for a competitor. Keep up the bad work, Publix.

I worked at Publix part-time for less than a year

    Pros

nothing. Everything about the experience was horrible.

    Cons

I started out as a cart girl, was promised to move up quickly since everyone started there. I had prior cashier experience and I spent four months doing everything enthusiastically and two white people that came after me where promoted before I was. Gave me 12 hour shifts with a 30 minute lunch and no breaks in between. Had to clean disgusting bathrooms when the other girls didn't. Not worth 8 bucks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Don't be obviously racist
