    Pros

Works with your schedule Pretty descent networking Nice people to work with

    Cons

No matter how much or how little work you do, you get paid the same

    Advice to Management

Be conscious of the work loads of the graduate assistants. Some work harder than others. And those others often take advantage of the ones working hard.

    Pros

As a student at Purdue, it is good to have a part-time job that pays a lot higher than state minimum. The hour is flexible and the working environment is great!

    Cons

No parking spot for part-time student worker, no food provided so you have to bring your own lunch

    Pros

They have a great work and school balance - work schedule is flexible to what you need to do. It is a great environment to be in, everyone is willing to help with what needs to be done. There are many different oppurtunties to advance and work in different areas. They offer jobs such as Facility Attendant, Entry, Personal Trainer, Fitness Consultant, Lifeguard, Member Services, and many others. I worked with many of the upper management and they have been open to new suggestions about new improvements or ideas that can help improve a certain area, i.e. CPR and First Aid, Aquatic Center - Swim Meets, expansion of programs into the community

    Cons

The compensation is low and there are not many hours to work since there are so many employees. Some areas had trouble communicating - not all the areas talk with each other about what events are happening. Different areas have a different environment, one position is relaxed and easygoing with the job while another position can be constantly stressed and not wanting to be at work.

    Advice to Management

The recreation center and the aquatic center have a completely different environment - try to get them on the same page. Other than that, keep up the great work!

    Pros

Its a great opportunity to work with some world class professors and students. The efforts to keep costs down have been an amazing benefit for students.

    Cons

Very few to none, the only thing to be concerned about is the size. Its a big school with a big school feel.

    Advice to Management

None, very happy to work here and I always felt my advisors were looking out for my best interests.

    Pros

    1. Access to resources 2. Access to talented researchers

    Cons

    1. Majority of research groups/offices work in a silo 2. No consistent work culture (even within the same department) 3. No clear or consistent written/formal communication about expectations 4. No accountability

    Advice to Management

    1. Seek a third-party to conduct an internal review of processes for long-term improvements. 2. Clearly define expectations and results of not meeting expectations. 3. Create an annual review to assist employee development 4. Make the strategic plan a mantra - everyone should know it, understand its value, understand the role in supporting the plan, take pride in that role

    Pros

Purdue is a leading research and education institution. There are a lot of smart researchers and students.

    Cons

It is a huge place with lots of moving parts. To get anything done, you have to convince a lot of people. That's not impossible, but a lot of projects get bogged down in lots of review, discussion, and indecision. Sometimes great ideas die in committee or a single meeting. It's a sticky place with lots of institutional glue. Do not expect anything to happen quickly unless it's something the President is supporting.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to empower employees to make decisions, operate independently, and own projects success.
