    Pros

Pay is not much nor bad considering cost of living. People are nice and working environment is good. A lot of learning chances and freedom.

    Cons

It's tough to do both taking classes and doing research at the same time. Sometimes you will need to work more than what you have to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It greatly depends on what professor you work with. If your adviser is nice, there is a higher chance for you to be able to enjoy your work. If not, it might make you unhappy.

I have been working at Purdue University full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Focus on engineering provides a strong base for research projects. Lots of talented faculty members with a willingness to work on interdisciplinary projects. Emphasis on creativity and a growing base of entrepreneurial support for commercializing ideas. Flexible work hours, good vacation and leave policies. Great place to raise a family.

    Cons

Not a great place for young professionals looking to have fun outside of work. Promotion policies are unclear and uneven (like many other universities).

I worked at Purdue University part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Opportunity to meet with experts in your interested field. The ability to be flexible and work when it is most convenient and have meetings when it is most convenient. Excellent funding!

    Cons

Relaxed timelines made it seem like everything was in slow motion. When expensive items needed to be replaced in laboratory settings, it was difficult to go through the process to replace them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stay up to date with project owners and those working on projects to keep the timelines moving forward. Facilitate rapid development by pointing them in the direction of decision makers so things can get done faster.
