Many great work experiences, poor work life balance

Audit Senior Associate (Former Employee)
Detroit, MI

I worked at PwC full-time for more than 3 years

ProsThere are a lot of great career opportunities and learning opportunities at PwC. There are opportunities to travel within the US and internationally.

ConsThere was always a fire to put out, which led to poor work life balance even though this was an area where the company was trying to improve. There is no compensation for overtime and it is expected that you will spend considerable time at home finishing up your work.

Client work is great, but work life balance does not exist

Senior Associate - Assurance (Current Employee)

I have been working at PwC full-time for more than a year

ProsThe different clients typically are receptive to your ideas and thoughts, which provides a bit of satisfaction. Pay is not too bad either, when looked at strictly from a salary perspective (looking at hourly will put a dent in the pay opinion however)

ConsThe constant work load, long nights, early morning, and never ending stress of always having more and more pushed upon you to do make for an overall experience that I could not envision maintaining for an entire career.

It was a great place, long long ago.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
New York, NY

I worked at PwC full-time for more than 5 years

ProsThe best thing about being here is the cache it brings. You get lots of training, lots of experience, and its a great resume builder.

ConsVery political. I was considered Internal Firm Services. IFS=unnecessary overhead. They spent more time reviewing performance: Self reviews, peer reviews, etc and not enough time trying to make improvements based on those reviews. If you're not in client services, no one cares about you.

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to remember that IFS staff need work-life balance too.

Great opportunity to grow

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at PwC

Pros- Global Professional Services Firm.
- Primarily hires qualified CA's or postgraduate certified accountants.
- Word-class Business Model.
- Strong attitude for strategic skills enhancement

ConsHorrible place who rewards hard work with contempt and disloyalty. The pay scale and opportunities to advance are very poor unless you are in a customer facing position.

Frustrating for a senior-level management consultant

Advisory Director (Former Employee)

I worked at PwC full-time for more than a year

ProsWide array of opportunities; overall strong brand recognition

ConsDon't really understand management consultant motivations and mindset
Pay is mediocre at senior levels
Culture is too risk-averse to really help clients with breakout thinking

Advice to Senior ManagementJust because you buy a management consultancy doesn't mean you're now a strategy consulting house. As long as audit and tax risk profiles drive the company culture, you'll be stuck as a second-tier player

Great place to START your career

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at PwC full-time for more than a year

ProsAt big 4 public accounting firms you are going to learn a lot of information in a short period of time which makes you very marketable when you decide to leave. You get to work with a variety of clients and learn a lot about different industries.

ConsYou work really long hours and they pay is below average for the about of work you put in. There is no work life balance, who have to choose 1. There is a lot of politics involved in the progression of your career.
