A career at PwC Advisory offers great opportunities but can come at a personal cost

Advisory Senior Associate (Former Employee)
Dallas, TX

I worked at PwC full-time for more than 3 years

ProsReview for PwC Advisory practice:
-Opportunity to work with very smart people (and in my experience, some really great people)
-Good pay and bonus structure
-Excellent opportunity for advancement (i.e., you should be able to double your income every 5-6 years...if you can last that long)
-Potential for very interesting projects
-Potential for international travel and work abroad programs
-Excellent place to launch your career. You'll see more and do more than your buddies in industry (rule of thumb: every one year of consulting is like 2 years in industry
-Very social organization with lots of team dinners and office happy hours
-You get to travel

Cons-Worklife balance is very much a challenge (they're are addressing this with flexibility programs but it's an up hill cultural battle
-You work with very smart and driven people - it can be very competitive
-Projects can be demanding
-You may travel a lot...initially sounds like a lot of fun but you can burn after a year of continuous travel
-Steep learning curve (the pace, level of stress, content and technical skills needed in a short amount of time)
-Don't ever plan on working 8-5 with all of your weekends free

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove your process for sourcing project resources so that travel is not 80%+

Great Career Growth potential, with some work life constraints, and boring foundation of work

Tax Manager (Current Employee)
Dallas, TX

I have been working at PwC full-time for more than 5 years

ProsCareer Advancement
Access to Partners, other business leaders
Respected in the marketplace
At management level, the ability to teach, develop and motivate staff

ConsTax Compliance, as it comes as no surprise to many, is not very exciting or fulfilling
At times of the year, or depending on client needs, the hours are alot, 60+ during busy season, and the occasional 100hr week has happened as well.
There are some coworkers who are not great at their jobs, and upper management does little to nothing to weed out under performing staff, even if they are willing to admit they are under performing.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more active at weeding out poor performers, a bad associate may not affect that much, but a poor performing manager, make multiple peoples carry more weight.

Working for PwC

Customer Service Representative (Current Employee)
Dallas, TX

I have been working at PwC as a contractor for less than a year

Pros- 2 (3 if asked to stay for overtime) paid 15 min breaks, 1 hr lunch. Furthermore can take unlimited restroom breaks anytime needed.
- If asked to work overtime, food is provided almost 100% of the time, good food like Chili's, La Madeline, Black Eyed Peas, etc.
- Supervisors are very patient and always willing to help with any call, can easily escalate any call to a supervisor if you don't know the answer.
- Can request any # of days off for emergencies/job interviews/doctor visits etc.

ConsVery rare to get promoted to permanent. 1 temp every 5+ years or so.

Advice to Senior ManagementShouldn't choose to retain people past contract date based on favorites. People that worked hard and knew their stuff got extended along with people that didn't know the answer to basic questions as well as those who missed a lot of days of work/came to work late.
