    Pros

Inspiring, knowledge filled environment - for how big of an organization it is PwC does a great job of breaking down the government feel and promoting smaller teams, comraderie, and a general meritocracy. Those that care and put forth effort are rewarded and partners are very supporting. The educational resources and opportunities in differents service lines and offices are enormous.

    Cons

At lower levels, you're often paid less than you may be worth. There is a lot of admin necessary at times. Change does not happen quickly even if a process is understood by most to be broken. Nothing different than other big4.

Incredibly bureaucratic and regulatory approach to web development.

    Pros

PWC tends to get high-profile contracts, which can be exciting for a technical developer.

    Cons

I worked for a year as a full-time consultant for a website development contract with a federal agency. We were asked to build a fairly simple and small public-facing content website -- a project we could have hit out of the park in three months. Instead, we weighed it down with incredible amounts of useless bureaucratic time-wasting that added nothing at all to the quality of the product. Website development is not a field that benefits from an atmosphere of intense regulation and corporate conformity. We ended up spending a full year on a project that was not very difficult, employing a team of nearly 10 people when we needed maybe 3. As the tech lead, I had a full-time manager whose only job was to observe my work, though I would have been perfectly capable of delivering on the schedule without a full-time manager. Even more ridiculously, my manager had a full-time manager whose only job was observing him!!! Then, every couple of months or so, they would bring in a "quality team" from some other section of PWC whose only job was to observe all of us. Why didn't they just leave us alone and let us build a website? In the end, all this recursive bureaucracy achieved was to establish a mood of dull conformity and corporate dread, which is the PWC lifestyle in a nutshell.

    Advice to Management

Website development is not the business PWC should be in. Website developers tend to have some "joie de vivre", which is apparently illegal at PWC.

    Pros

At PWC I was surrounded by well educated, hard working professionals. As a client-facing organization, associates are helpful and collaborate with each other. There is a real atmosphere of success throughout the organization.

    Cons

The hours can be long, which also can make one wish that the compensation was a little higher. However, the access to challenges and experience as a professional are very valuable in and of themselves.

  8. It was a very in-depth learning experience that required very quick adaptation.

    Pros

The people. The personal growth. Great team-based culture at the lower level. Just Great!!

    Cons

The hours, the internal expectations. You can end up in a great project, or in a nightmare project... and it could ruin your life for 6+ months at a time (which is what has happened to me).

    Advice to Management

When it came out to really look out for your people.... short term $ gains and pleasing an unfair client came first. All that is written in paper went out the door. Have the courage to walk away.
