    Pros

Opportunity is self directed but with quality coaching Training opportunities are substantial and open ended Experience leads to more experience with top executives and leading companies

    Cons

Early entrants will have long hours We work at the client sites which could mean a lot of travel The partner model is not the easiest to work in as there is a tendency to be stratified by rank The up or out model has be repudiated but there are still many aspects in practice

    Advice to Management

There is an enormous amount of talent and innovation within the staff which is often overlooked. There is too frequently the behavior that the best ideas come from partners.

    Pros

You will work with very skilled and talented people on great clients. Thus, it is a great place to learn and to develop as a professional. Flexibility is available for those who are "on top of their game". High performance is rewarded. New tax staff are encouraged to rotate through various groups and are required to get diverse training. This provides a broad skill set to build upon. You will attend a national training for a week every year and local trainings and online training is always available if you have the time. The San Jose office is very oriented toward technology clients and venture capital clients.

    Cons

Just the normal stuff you would expect working at a large client service organization -- resource managment issues and quite a bit of admin. Lots of hours at times. Clearly working for a big four accounting firm is nothing like working for the government. If you are looking for a eight to five job then most of the time this isn't it. Overtime is part of the deal but doesn't have to occur while you are at your desk. Beyond office hours no one really cares if you are at your desk or not. If you get your work done right and on schedule it will show up in your reviews and you'll be rewarded for it.

    Advice to Management

The firm has great leadership right now. They could make PwC better by finding innovative ways to improve resource management and streamline adminstrative tasks.

    Pros

Right from the start, the other employees give you opportunities to progress in your career. There also is a variety of work available for every associate. Promotion is quick to those who put in the time needed.

    Cons

You have to work a lot of hours.

    Advice to Management

New associates need time to understand the logistics associated with working for this company. I would recommend giving some time to help them figure out the proper procedure and technique to be successful.

    Pros

They finance you CPA education and testing for you. Amazing support system and leadership programs. The location is very enjoyable and clients are really likeable.

    Cons

The work isn't nearly as rigorous as advertised. I wish we were busier and had more to do at times. Partners could be a little more proactive in assigning associates to projects.

    Advice to Management

Management is great. I think the structure could use a little more focus. Associates should be able to choose their clients.

    Pros

Great place to start your career, global opportunities, steep learning curve, great coaching culture, engage in intellectual discussion quite often and a transparent organization.

    Cons

Stagnancy in career growth after a level

    Advice to Management

Should think about retaining talent after one becomes senior manager considering that every one can't become partner.

    Pros

PwC has excellent clients and great people. The training programs are highly regarded. This is a great place to start your career.

    Cons

You should expect to work at least 20% overtime each year. Your actual experience is highly dependent on which team you are on so you need to make sure your team is a good fit for you.

    Advice to Management

Management wants to grow the firm revenue but does not back up their goals with hiring goals that are conducive to growth.

    Pros

PwC is a really great place to work if you come in with the right perspective. The people here have your best interest in mind, whether it seems like it at the time or not. Having worked at PwC for nearly 8 years and having seen good times and bad, I've seen management make some tough decisions, and generally in favor of it's people. This is a unique quality that I believe distinguishes PwC from the other firms.

    Cons

For associates and seniors with families/kids at home, it can be tough at times to manage the worklife balance. More balance is attained at manager level and above.

    Advice to Management

Please keep finding ways to differentiate PwC from the other firms as you have been this year. Bob Moritz has been shaking things up since taking over, and I believe that it has been quite effective on motivating people.

Great place to learn. High performance environment. Focus on accelerated skill development in accounting technical skills, client service, team dynamics, etc. Exposure to some of the largest and exciting clients in the valley. You work with several intelligent, highly motivated people.

    Cons

Work life balance. But this is expected given the learning curve and high performance environment.
