    Pros

Strong training and development, career opportunities, alumni involvement, brand recognition, constant learning, daily challenges and growth. Stay on top of current issues and be a thought leader. Grow your network exponentially.

    Cons

Long hours, nights, weekends, holidays... whatever is needed to get the job done and ensure client satisfaction. Difficult to make work-life balance and get the most out of the opportunities available. Easy to get buried in your work unless you are mindful about setting boundaries with yourself and others.

    Pros

If you like variety, PwC is the place to be. You have a great number of opportunities in both audit and advisory roles, and if you challenge yourself, you can grow your career here.

    Cons

With so much field work, it is often difficult to forge relationships within the firm itself. A lot of the firm initiatives tend to be underserved due to this, things like the coaching/buddy system. Also, the hours are as challenging as one would imagine (but most managers and above do more than pay lip service to firm Flexibility).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Someone within each market really needs to take a lead role in building better intra-office communication and ensuring that firm initiatives are being handled in a more meaningful way. Also, if you're going to invest so much time and energy in new products like Spark, there needs to be a more effective strategy for getting firm members to learn and utilize the,.

Grueling work environment, but best place to start accounting career

    Pros

Great exposure to finance executives at small private and large public companies. Large learning curve, but the best way to get hands-on experience to launch an accounting career. Each year at a public accounting firm is worth approximately two years in industry, so well worth the investment. Great team environment where you can learn from staff at each level above you. If you take control of your career and want to take on additional challenges, they will be made available to you.

    Cons

All public accounting firms struggle with compensation. For the amount of time that is put in by the average employee, there needs to be a bigger monetary value put into it or people will continue to work 2-3 years and then leave for a job with less hours and higher pay. There is a mentality that you need to continue working until those with more seniority have left. This leads to a lot of unproductivity and unhappiness from less work/life balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compensation needs to be addressed at lower levels. Hanging a carrot out of what the partners make (granted, they have a lot more risk), isn't sufficient.

I worked at PwC full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    -Connections
-Its like a background check for employers- they know that you were top of your class- leaped hurdles and then were malleable enough to listen and perform under stress, deadlines, and ridiculous hours

    Cons

-No more life- Extremely negative environment- hierarchical to the max- nit picky- busy work, pointless work- looooooooong hours for me it was 70-90 hrs a week 6 months out of the year- then the other 6 months were 55+ was given things to do with no introduction, then scolded for not meeting expectations, doing the best-best i could do only ended in not getting scolded- no positive reinforcement- deceitful management just trying to convince you it will get better. Our market team was understaffed for the whole time i was employed- and they couldn't stem the 50% turnover and kept telling us it would get better promising more staff and delivering nothing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Abandon your business plan in Audit... it ruins too many of the young intelligent people- creates zombies who no longer have a drive to do anything but get by without getting yelled at.

    Pros

You work with lots of great people both inside the firm and with your clients.
Constantly changing environment, always more to learn.

Increase and improve the communication to clients about what the increased pressure on audit quality is going to mean to their audit specifically.

    Pros

Client service is a great place to get your feet wet but not. Internal positions provide great work/life balance, but less experience. PwC has the right long term vision, but continually trip getting there.

    Cons

No career progression unless you are client service (but they don't have work/life balance). Vacation/holiday time is decent, if you can take it. Salary may cut it, but raises and bonus aren't good lately as business hasn't met goals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up and realize where the business is going. Time to retool!

    Pros

People are incredibly supportive, benefits are comparable with the rest of the valley, variety of work is nothing you'll find anywhere else (except another consulting group).

    Cons

Work/life balance. Everything you heard about working for a consulting company is true. The travel will be extensive and the hours will be grueling.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work... maybe work on keeping the hours a bit more reasonable.
