I worked at Pyramid Breweries full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great place to work, especially if you like craft beer, as they offer amazing employee discounts for beer ($1 pints), kegs, retail, food, etc. The best part of working there is the staff, I've made lasting friendships with so many people there. Often staff will go there on their day off to hangout on the patio, I can't imagine doing that anywhere else.

    Cons

Some of the front house staff is very young, so there's some high-school drama, but if you don't let yourself get consumed by it (don't date your co-worker), you're fine.

    Advice to Management

I loved my manager, she took pride in her job and recognized those who worked hard.

  2. Helpful (1)

Built in social network, easy for a restaurant job.

I worked at Pyramid Breweries (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people are awesome - everyone hangs out after work and on days off - the job comes with a bunch of new friends! Hours are good because they're not open for breakfast & they close relatively early - around 11pm. Beer is also great. Some good perks, like free beer.

    Cons

The food is only ok so you have to deal with complaints a lot.

I worked at Pyramid Breweries part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Started to become serious about beer education . Amazing brewers and beers.

    Cons

To proud about past success. Should be more involved in the local beer community. No incentive to improve with stadiums guaranteeing business most of the year. BAD COMMUNICATION.

    Advice to Management

Make sure your servers like beer! Or at least can fake it. When setting standards, up hold them. Don't assume your employees can read your minds.

I worked at Pyramid Breweries full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Seattle team was a good grooup, but everyone has left. Decent benefits and PTO. Flexible schedule is possible (even more so since everyone has left). Free case of beer a month. $1 pints in the alehouse

    Cons

The Rochester management team is a joke. Lacks leadership but not hostility. Very Us vs. them attitude within the company

    Advice to Management

Sell off Pyramid and Magic Hat (together or seperate) and go back to making that Gennesse swill

    Pros

The only pros were free parking near downtown Seattle, shorts and sandals dress code, and free beer on holidays.

    Cons

    1. Management didnt know what they were doing. 2. They put a salesman in charge of their marketing strategy. 3. They didnt care how much their cost-of-goods were, their only goal was to cook the books so their distribution looked good at the top-line. Bottom-line costs only mattered when it was too late. 4. No infrastructure building, no investment whatsoever in their people, information systems, internal processes, or incentive systems. 5. Communications are hostile in-between and within departments. There is no cultural awareness on the part of management. It is instead replaced by a single-minded, fear of upheaval that erodes all sense of camaraderie among the staff. They've since been forced into sale to North American Brewing out of Rochester, New York. For the few that remained (luckily most of the c-level staff were purged in the sale) I pray they're creating something again, something worth owning.

    Advice to Management

Do exactly what you did, which is to jettison Martin Kelly & Mike Brown. I'd drop Operations VP Steve Hood as well. He's not worth much operationally. He's more of a talking head and at such a small company and in such a role where someone who is hands-on is needed he's not really utilizing his talents.
