I worked at QBE North America full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Your peers are awesome, unfortunately everyone is so busy that you cannot really interact with others.

    Cons

The CIO has no backbone and lives in la la land if he thinks his directs will ever turn things around, the egos on them are incredible, and the staff feels that if the senior managers aren't held accountable, why should they be, lead by example. The infighting to make is other look bad is comical.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire the CIO and 5 directs and you may actually get somewhere!

    Pros

Large and stable with potential for internal transfers domestically and internationally.

    Cons

Bureaucratic and rigid role levels tied to compensation levels regardless of performance outside of these parameters

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on retaining talent and soft people skills and eliminate negative culture of blame which inhibits innovation

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More to all the CEO's, COO's etc…speak to the ppl who bust their tail for you day in and day out. You want to see change for the better speak to them.

I worked at QBE North America full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The office is conveniently located in NY financial district. The salary paid the rent, that was pretty good. We had fresh fruit delivered at the beginning of the week

    Cons

on my first day, colleagues started talking badly about others. There is a lot of backstabbing going on and some people in authority made me do unethical things

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lead by example. People that are not decision makers in the day to day business should not be penalized bonus wise if the company doesn't make a profit. They still did their job
