Not a great place to be in at this time

ProsThere are none at this time.

ConsThere is no job stability and career development opportunities as there are lot of positions getting eliminated to give way to offshore outsourcing.

Advice to Senior ManagementFor each application I feel it's better to adopt offshore outsourcing in a phased manner rather than eliminating most of the onsite positions and switching to offshore abruptly.

Tough times ahead

Decisions made based on popularity...not good business!!!

I worked at QBE North America full-time for more than 5 years

ProsBenefits are decent. Generous holiday and PTO. Not many pro's other than that due to all the changes, inconsistencies, and popularity contests!

ConsMany recent layoffs of quality people. Layoff decisions made by management seemingly based on popularity. One department let go 50% of their staff, yet still had 6 supervisors, 3 managers, and 3 VP's (for about 50 people...you do the math)! Clients are not renewing contracts and/or switching to the competition and the company has not been able to attract new business. Communication between upper management and front line associates is infrequent. When communication does occur, it is not transparent...lots of smoke and mirrors (i.e - we were told everything was fine for months prior to the first round of layoffs)! Lots of organizational changes and contractors don't typically get converted to full-time associates for a very long time (we had some in my department that had been contractors for over 2 years and were never converted).

Advice to Senior ManagementLayoff decisions should be subject to HR review! Why were people with good performance reviews and no write-ups/issues dismissed over people on warnings??? Stop trying to hide the fact that there is trouble. Your associates aren't stupid! We know when something is going on and the more you try and hide it, the more we distrust anything you have to say.

Prior small company feel, quickly turning in to compassionless corporation

ProsFlexible work/life balance , incredible and supportive direct managers, decent benefits

ConsContinually decreasing morale due to recent massive layoffs aimed to increase 'efficiency'. Right at or just over 1000 employees in the last year or so.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn to better value, encourage and appreciate the talented people we still have on board; we may lose them otherwise.
