    Pros

Some incredible leaders at mid and senior management level. Provided solid experience in many areas. My professional development increased greatly until the past few years.
I really think the environment can be great again once the current adjustment is complete.

    Cons

The company is going through a transition related to regulatory issues. This caused a cautious approach. The company has gone through significant reorganization and the result is that some very good people have left. Too much focus on bottom line which has hampered development if next line of leaders.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start investing time in devoting the next wave of leadership as many solid leaders are leaving.

I have been working at QBE North America full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The ability to work remotely when needed or full time. They are very flexible in that regard, so it makes those with families be able to work between needed time off and not have to use PTO or lose pay as a result.

    Cons

Bad pay. The morale is low. Constant talk about profit and little team building or morale boosting. Benefits consistently are getting worse. They have these values we are supposed to live by, and state that if you meet them or exceed them you will be rewarded but that's not correct. Going above and beyond is rarely if ever recognized by management. They reserve bonus' and praise for upper management which the "worker bees" have no way of moving up within the company because you can never get anything other than a meeting expectation on your yearly review.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on your employees and making them happy and your profit will increase.

    Pros

The company is committed to customer satisfaction, managers engage with employees. Salary is competitive and benefits are good. The company tries to do business the right way, even if competitors use somewhat shady business dealings.

    Cons

Since being purchased by QBE, the company has taken on a "big company" feel at the expense of strong employee engagement. The company seems to have a "one size fits all" mentality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on line-level employees to ensure engagement.

    Pros

Great work-life balance, generous 401k plan, opportunities to grow within

    Cons

Too many levels of approvals makes it hard to get things done and there have been many layoffs due to poor business performance and outsourcing, No loyalty to its employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seek input from a little further down the line when making major business decisions.

I have been working at QBE North America full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Potential. Much of the core spirit of people who built the strong regional carriers with strong agency relationships are still there. Sound Midwest cultures and team still drive the Middle Market relationships.

    Cons

New York is overtaking this company, trying to make it a national carrier with more care on product and the bottom-line, and less care about the customer or the agents who sell products. Belief is that the best product and technology will sell, and who cares about the agent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Agents do not want another Hartford or Traveler's or Zurich. There is a reason why Regional carriers kick the Nationals routinely, and have for years. You had an opportunity to build a National with Regional flare and flavor, but you blew it. Why? Because you don't know what you're doing, and you're too pompous to ask those who do. Instead you've relied on New York consultants.

    Pros

Your peers are awesome, unfortunately everyone is so busy that you cannot really interact with others.

    Cons

The CIO has no backbone and lives in la la land if he thinks his directs will ever turn things around, the egos on them are incredible, and the staff feels that if the senior managers aren't held accountable, why should they be, lead by example. The infighting to make is other look bad is comical.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire the CIO and 5 directs and you may actually get somewhere!
