    Pros

    - Mostly good people to work with
    - Reasonable pay. PTO accrual after a couple of years starts to become pretty nice.
    - Work from home policy (at least when I was there)
    - Lots of training opportunities

    Cons

    - IT is monolithic and rigid
    - Technology lagged considerably
    - Work was absolutely paralyzed by over-process and poor enterprise tools
    - Not a lot of career growth. You may find yourself doing one thing and doing it forever.

    Advice to Management

Emphasize professional development, and not just training. Allow the of use of tools and processes that let teams get work done.

    Pros

Good pay and great benefits. Plenty of work and challenges to keep you busy if you want them. Change is not always bad.

    Cons

The changes that have occurred were needed but very difficult to go through. Previous mgmt had really messed things up and this group seems to be ready to move things forward.

    Advice to Management

Be transparent. Trust your employees and listen to them. Let the business areas do business and let HR do just their piece.

    Pros

The people here are largely amazing. While every office has bad apples, the legacy employees at QBE are valuable team members.

    Cons

Its a shell of what it used to be. Due to bad management decisions, the company has been crippled and unable to follow its own culture. As a result of SME's leaving the organization, work has been piled on those remaining, with no compensation to offset.

    Advice to Management

Stop letting those only looking out for themselves make the important day to day decisions. Too many poor layoff decisions has removed any knowledge foundation the organization once had; its greatest asset.

    Pros

It's like reading a Far Side or Dilbert comic for examples of how NOT to be a manager.

    Cons

Employees work in a constant state of fear and boredom. Supervisors treat everyone like children. Expect no respect.

    Advice to Management

Show employees respect, look for activities to motivate employees, and be a professional. Keep your home life out of your career.

    Pros

Good pay and benefits, work life balance is fine depending on which group you are in

    Cons

Never ending organizational changes and heavy turnover, no strategic direction from top leadership to down, no career progression opportunities, poor culture and professionalism across the organization

    Advice to Management

Please keep the good talent, and not just cheap/low cost employees with less skills. Focus on moving forward and differentiating in the market rather than keep churning the same round and round in the name of organizational changes.

    Pros

Long history with good talent at various levels, not sure about the top levels though.

    Cons

Currently going through a great deal of transition and right sizing so would suggest avoiding them as an employer at the present time.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

    Not much of anything really

    Cons

Legacy Sterling associates have successfully managed to destroy the Sterling/Balboa merger just like they destroyed Sterling. Poor management, absurd decisions, and a "save your own butt" attitude has cost the company customers and valuable associates. QBE believes they are competition to Assurant. What a joke!

    Advice to Management

Look at the mistakes of the past and ensure they are not continually repeated. Time for the "good old boy" network to die.

    Pros

Good salaries and benefits. Excellent 401k -- core contribution plus matching.

    Cons

Job stability, every increasing budget cuts, lack of local leadership.

    Advice to Management

Your agents aren't dumb -- they know how you've been running the company. You don't become a leader by outsourcing your talent.
