I worked at QBE North America full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The company is committed to customer satisfaction, managers engage with employees. Salary is competitive and benefits are good. The company tries to do business the right way, even if competitors use somewhat shady business dealings.

    Cons

Since being purchased by QBE, the company has taken on a "big company" feel at the expense of strong employee engagement. The company seems to have a "one size fits all" mentality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on line-level employees to ensure engagement.

Great work-life balance, generous 401k plan, opportunities to grow within

    Cons

Too many levels of approvals makes it hard to get things done and there have been many layoffs due to poor business performance and outsourcing, No loyalty to its employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seek input from a little further down the line when making major business decisions.

    Pros

Flexibility to work from home, peers generally have been a pleasure to work with

    Cons

Lack clear and consistent strategy in certain business segments. Cannot find a way to blend acquisitions and as a result they are too internally focused, lack resources to be a strong customer centric organization, poor middle management but improving, High turnover, poor morale

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find a way to connect with the field operations, bring in middle mangers that know how to lead and build strong teams

    Pros

They are attempting to stay current in the technology realms and if you are lucky enough to be a man and have the right people like you (regardless of work effort) you will do well. Work from home accepted.

    Cons

It leadership promoted many to upper management who have no leadership skills. Communication is poor, favoritism is rampant. The company is struggling both financially and in paying attention to the morale/well being of employees. People are putting in ungodly hours and often only being spoken to when something goes wrong. Good workers are not rewarded and opinions are disregarded and laughed at.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Acknowledge the hiring mistakes that were made and replace those that are costing the company money, people, and morale.

I worked at QBE North America full-time for more than a year

    Pros

QBE has entered the US market with hopes of replicating their success and profitability in Australia. New products, new markets, new opportunities for senior leaders from Australia to come to the US.

    Cons

Lack of communication, lack of a clear purpose or direction in decision-making, elimination of positions continues...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop a clear vision and direction and communicate that to your people. Show appreciation for your people and recognize that everyone is doing the jobs of several people and they're the ones paying your salaries. You need to find a way to connect people to QBE, many are still loyal to former brands like GC, Southern Guaranty and others. Management by fear won't generate financial results you want.

    Cons

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More to all the CEO's, COO's etc…speak to the ppl who bust their tail for you day in and day out. You want to see change for the better speak to them.
