Mass Confusion; Incompetent Management; Layoffs; No Bonus Since QBE Acquisition

Current Employee - Cannot Reveal Or Risk Being Fired in Atlanta, GA

I have been working at QBE full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Wonderful people from original company (those that remain & haven't been laid off); ok benefits; flex time.

    Cons

Many & varied: 3 years of constant changes since acquisition with most not favorable to employees. Bonus formula documented at beginning of the year then revised and no one knows the formula utilized to arrive at the percentage & payout as it is termed "discretionary" . Constant layoffs in an attempt at expense reduction. Most VPs & Managers are merely administrators with no knowledge of the product lines. Promote "Openess" but the Managers are very secretive and cronyism is rampant. Trade publications have documented shareholders disgust as well as the poor management that have led to poor results. Long way to go before this company can claim any success. Australians have no concept of how to write insurance in US markets. Many jobs out sourced to Manila. Employees are told they are laid off but they are expected to train their Manila counterparts joyfully & if they balk then the severance package will be gone....and it goes on & on!!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let those that were sucessful running their line of business do so; honor your commitments to your employees pertaining to bonuses. Know that you have lost your employees' trust and confidence. Know that your Sr VPs (with few exceptions) have no idea what is happening downline and are focused solely on advancing their careers and not on what is best for QBE. The best employees are walking out the door...that is the ones that have not been laid off or had their jobs outsourced to Manila. QBE cannot continue in this manner & expect to be profitable.

I worked at QBE full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

    Had good benefits
    Had work balance
    Had good pay and benefits

    Cons

With in the past 5 years or so, company had 3 CEO's, that should tell you something. John Neal latest idea is to off shore all or most of the jobs and just get all high level jobs to manage off shored jobs.
This used to be a good company to work for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up smell the coffee, this company is swirling the drain, and any employees that is left should be smart and leave now before they are RIFT.

I have been working at QBE full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Meeting few great people that has come and gone.

    Cons

Lack of Communication, Inexperience management who do not know how to talk to people, HUGE Favortism, some female management has preference for MALE employees to hire, promote, etc. Cutting down on raise when they keep saying they pay for performance, Cutting down on PTO, and offshoring all the process. Whats has this company come to, I know its going "down under mate".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire proper people that can manage people and not what QBE has now. This is a joke. They cannot communicate, they show favortism to certain Gender, They like to HOARD information. No wonder there is no Communication. FIRE the management and hire new ones.

I worked at QBE full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Wish I had one. This place is just terrible. EVPs in Atlanta have run their previous businesses into the ground and now continue with QBE businesses. Does any one in Australia look at the companies purchased and how they look today? WTF

    Cons

Senior management is terrible, poor communicators, systems are bad, agents hate the company, HR is a joke, too many people from General Casualty (the worst run company) in senior positions. There is NO WAY this model will work. Look for them to sell most of this off in 2014.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Retire. You are terrible.

    Pros

The pay is good considering all that is going on in the company.
Centrally located with good freeway access if you consider that a plus

    Cons

Incredibly confused organization due to multiple reorganizations
    Communication isn't happening
Upper management isn't communicating with any regularity about what is happening within the organization.

    Pros

Some of the people were very friendly and helpful

    Cons

Right now this is a terrible place to work and many of the staff are miserable and collecting a paycheck only.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No one can fathom why you have destroyed so much of the business you purchased in the U.S. and I really hope you can recover for the sake of those still working for you.

I worked at QBE full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

It is a job that pays you money in order to survive. Gets you at least work experience. Its great if you like working saturdays because they brought on too much workload and not enough manpower.

    Cons

The work environment is terrible. The people who work there are not friendly and do not say hello to anyone. You walk down the hall to go to the bathroom and say hello to someone walking and they give you a weird look and walk on by. Strange. You also get looks for getting up out of your chair.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

How about not so much micromanagement.
