The pay is good considering all that is going on in the company.
Centrally located with good freeway access if you consider that a plus

Incredibly confused organization due to multiple reorganizations
    Communication isn't happening
Upper management isn't communicating with any regularity about what is happening within the organization.

I have been working at QBE full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Some of the people were very friendly and helpful

    Cons

Right now this is a terrible place to work and many of the staff are miserable and collecting a paycheck only.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No one can fathom why you have destroyed so much of the business you purchased in the U.S. and I really hope you can recover for the sake of those still working for you.

    Pros

Wish I had one. This place is just terrible. EVPs in Atlanta have run their previous businesses into the ground and now continue with QBE businesses. Does any one in Australia look at the companies purchased and how they look today? WTF

    Cons

Senior management is terrible, poor communicators, systems are bad, agents hate the company, HR is a joke, too many people from General Casualty (the worst run company) in senior positions. There is NO WAY this model will work. Look for them to sell most of this off in 2014.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Retire. You are terrible.

    Pros

It is a job that pays you money in order to survive. Gets you at least work experience. Its great if you like working saturdays because they brought on too much workload and not enough manpower.

    Cons

The work environment is terrible. The people who work there are not friendly and do not say hello to anyone. You walk down the hall to go to the bathroom and say hello to someone walking and they give you a weird look and walk on by. Strange. You also get looks for getting up out of your chair.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

How about not so much micromanagement.

    Pros

Insurance industry experience, international company experience

    Cons

Cutting benefits, deep cost cuts, senior management seem cold and distant/not listening and not caring

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't forget that people are what make a company great. Take time to listen and consider more carefully the steps you take.

I have been working at QBE full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Flexible Work schedule, promotion of work life balance and reasonable benefits.

    Cons

Flawed management structure. Strong presense of managers who hire personal friends and acquaintances from former organizations acquired by the organization or contracted vender operations. It is unfortunate to observe new professionals from the outside being treated so poorly and being isolated. Upper level management does not address employee concerns, questions or complaints. Highly unstable future is also a con.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Managements talk about the need for a more prefessional environment is the first sign that you have significant management and staff issues. However, the method in which upper management has determined to be the course of action to remedy this need has proven ineffective. Corporate leadership is going to have to involve itself more in some of the remote locations as regional leadership is either not being told of the issues that some locations are dealing with or all issues are being swept under the rug out of hopes that those affected by it will soon leave.

I worked at QBE full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good benefits and reasonable workload. They replaced much of their senior management in the US in 2013 with a team more familiar with the US market and are hoping to see improvement in their financial performance for 2014.

    Cons

QBE is an Australian based international insurance carrier that acquired a number of dissimilar insurance carriers in the US and is having difficulty consolidating them to become "One QBE". They have also been raising rates considerably driving away a lot of business. They have been downsizing their US workforce for years with more cuts expected in 2014. They place a heavy emphasis on off-shoring and outsourcing, which accounts for a lot of the job losses. Impacted departments include HR, IT, Claims, Admin and Underwriting. The financial performance of their North American operation has been a disappointment to stockholders in 2012 and 2013.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Minimize outsourcing to help improve employee moral. Increase local underwriting authority. You have been driving away the business you had before figuring out how to get the business you want resulting in considerable reductions in GWP.

I worked at QBE full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Coworkers are great people. They do hire a lot of remote working employees.

    Cons

The Group organization based in Australia are extremely fickle, and unforgiving. They make changes before other changes have any opportunity to take effect. They do not understand ownership of an insurance company in the United States. Constant leadership changes. I can only think of one with a Senior title who remains employed at QBE Americas that was here 10 years ago.

They fully buy into outsourcing everything and then question why they are not profitable. The organization does not maintain any constant appetite for business, constantly writing off newly written business because of loss ratio. Underwriters are not flexible or creative. Lacking profit is always blamed on the claims department, in turn generating more and more cuts, and outsourcing which perpetually leads to less and less profit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You cant give advice to management. I would suggest to the Board of Directors to fire the whole lot of senior leaders top down from CEO's and all SVP level titles, and bring in experienced successful leaders who understand not just business in the United States but globally.

I worked at QBE as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

    Enjoyable coworkers
    Potential for growth within company.
Standard work week was 37.5 hours
    Nice campus
Pretty relaxed atmosphere. Often could wear jeans on Fridays.

    Cons

Slow to change due to large size of company
Project had multiple delays that could have been prevented with more realistic deadlines or better interdepartmental communication

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My manager always seemed too busy. Better communication between different departments could have prevented problems that occurred with project.
