Pros
Good entry position when transitioning out of the lab environment. Fairly relaxed environment if not in sales, although likely to be regional differences in this regard.
Cons
Regional cultural practices can be a drain on resources. More open communication needed between teams . Need to invest more in training staff. Minimum company benefits provided. Product catalogue is getting a bit stale, need greater efforts in developing/improving new hardware and kits.
Advice to Senior Management
Work harder on talent retention, esp those that cost a lot to train. React faster to employee issues.
Pros
Good people in Germantown facility.
Good Location
Great folks below upper management to work with in Germany. Depending on the group though.
Cons
If you are not Europeans or in Sales, low upward mobility.
High employee turn over rate.
Too much big brother and politics.
Complex matrix organization - unnecessary.
Low pay with high stress.
Advice to Senior Management
Get in tune w employees and customers. Tear down the wall of mistrust.
Get more innovative with product development. Can't sit on purification forever
Pros
If something you need isn't available, there is the flexibility to create it yourself to share your vision with others. As everyone does this builds a stronger organization. Open communication with upper level management to provide the tools and resources we need to help ourselves and others be healthy and successful.
Cons
In my experience as an account manager, the only downside I can see is trying to keep the job fresh and exciting year after year. This of course is self created...
Advice to Senior Management
On the Life Science side, thank you for listening to the employes and taking issues into consideration for the health of the company. Times are difficult but providing the resources thus far for our success is very much appreciated!!!
Pros
Decent cantine, pretty complex, nice working conditions and eqiupment.
Cons
Extremely political, competition between employees very hight resulting in any real collaboration since everyone is competing with everyone else and little accountability.
Advice to Senior Management
Open eyes and ears.
Pros
Professional growth, movement within company, international exposure
Cons
Competitive pays but the economy isn't doing so well lately

Pros
The company in Asia is in the growing stage and many opportunities for promotion due to rapid expansion. Good for people that are adaptable, flexible and enjoys a challenge.
Cons
Average salary level, poor bonus structure, high work load and expectation. High level of office politics and below average benefits.
Advice to Senior Management
Bonus structure not designed to encourage over achievement as the base percentage are low. What is acceptable in Europe and NA does not work in Asia.
Pros
There is some professional training available through the HR department. Sales positions are offered a company car. The benefits are slightly above average.
Cons
There is not much opportunity for advancement within the US organization. The Life Science Sales organization is constantly being pushed beyond reasonable limits to fuel the diagnostic dreams of the CEO. The diagnostic areas of the company are money pits.
Pros
Good company culture, great products, great employees
Cons
Some policies do not make sense
Advice to Senior Management
Look into allowing more people to work from home, it saves the company money and makes your employees happier!
Pros
I worked in the Assay Transfer group, which had a great team of employees to work with. The work being done at Qiagen is for a very noteworthy cause, and certainly demands diligence in providing a diagnostic assay that many women around the world rely on. Management very flexible with personal life.
Cons
Work in the Assay Transfer group is under the Development sector of R and D, which proved to be quite repetitive and boring. I worked there for 2 summers and there was not much excitement or dynamic that I hoped to experience as an intern. Stilled learned a lot though. Also, Human Resources department is horrible.
Advice to Senior Management
HR needs to be revamped. Should not have experienced the problems that occurred with paperwork and punctuality in responding to concerns.
Pros
It's a good place to work, the colleagues are friendly and willing to share information. I learn a lot from working here.
Cons
The standard benefits are not as great as what provided by some other companies although they are already sufficient. I do not think it's that important anyway.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep the current trend.
