I have been working at QUIKRETE full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great people to work with although there can be some drama. Variety of duties to perform makes every day different.

    Cons

Promotions can be hard to come by, even though it is a national corporation. Upper management personnel usually stays a long time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to have better training for employees with promotion potential. Instead, management encourages growth and responsibilities, then decides to hire from outside the company than promote within.

    I worked at QUIKRETE

    Pros

Relative operational autonomy at the plant level, individual accountability for performance

    Cons

Seasonal, little in the way of real support from regional and corporate management resources

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on support of individual operational units. Don't try to force the same KPI's on plants of vastly different infrastructure and capacity and age.

I worked at QUIKRETE full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good environment to gain management experience. Company on the west coast is very solid and organized well.

    Cons

I spent fives years with the company showing no interest in my career future or willing to help me move forward even after completing a four year degree. No bonuses to speak of.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show more interest in management and develop a standard set of operating procedures for all facilities.

I have been working at QUIKRETE full-time for less than a year

    Pros

The hours are great, most employees are great at what they do and offer sincere help to the customers. You can wear flip-flops and shorts to work seriously! You automatically get pro-rated vacation time. Flowers on your b-day, lunch on admin day and a free turkey for Thanksgiving.

    Cons

Very boring work same routine day in and day out. If you are a quick learner they will pile on the work and make you assist other departments. Not a big deal but doing expense reports for the engineer and not letting upper management know is unethical. Well so is adjusting time cards for employees every Monday for the previous week to avoid paying them overtime. Very old building not kept up very well. Company waste so much paper and don't recycle at all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more professional don't deny applicants because of their appearance (overweight driver that applied was said "to be a liability"..."I could see him fall off a truck" Be more positive leave your negative attitude at home. No one wants to hear your personal problems you are having with your step kid. Be more encouraging and really work on morale it is lacking. Treat people with Don't take your new hires out to lunch if you are going to use their opinions and desires about wanting a better future against them.

I worked at QUIKRETE full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Salespeople are provided with vehicles or vehicle allowance. Quikrete also seems to be updating their brand feel and marketing, which seems to be a plus for salespeople in the long term.

    Cons

Pay is generally poor in all areas of the company, except for senior management. The company is managed in a very top-down manner, with little humor. I have been to many Quikrete locations and have found a generally negative, unwelcoming attitude at nearly all. Company is behind in technology and very conservative, frustrating from a sales/marketing standpoint.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at QUIKRETE full-time for more than a year

    Pros

opportunity to learn the concrete packaging process

    Cons

Company does not have procedures for manufacturing process on the shop floor and poor management practice which effects the profits for the company.
Too much finger pointing when things go wrong versus getting together and figuring out how to make it right to insure that it does not happen again.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You have good products and a great distribution system. You need to look at upgrading your management style from that of intimidation to caring and policy to take care of the people will increase your profits, Care for those who are in the trenches. Constantly hiring and laying
people off will not inure continuity and increases mistakes.
